Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

righty on the mound yesterday...Lefty on the mound tonight...

Cueto goes from looking great, to giving up an infield single and has fallen apart...

so in other words Dusty Baker shows no confidence in his players which in turn will just lower their confidence in themselves?

This team needs confidence and consistency, which we don't get at all from the different line ups every night.

I don't think this is as bad a thing as some of the things that Dusty does...Especially with Hairston and Kepp in the lineup...

Well seems to be that Arroyo is on the move...Phillies seems like the spot with the talk, but that is just a rumor...Hopefully we get someone that can play in return...

If its indeed BA then just the impending salary relief is a positive, we get prospects with a pulse its gravy.

If it is BA I just wonder what the plan is...With Thompson going down...I am assuming that Fogg comes up in his spot...Belisle has been in the pen, so I am not sure who would take BA's spot...Would it be someone in the trade or maybe Maloney...

BTW great game tonight...Cueto with a nice outing even after his little part where he fell apart a little bit...

Man I love the way Hairston and Kepp set the table at the top of the lineup...And Phillips has been playing great and hitting great against these soft tossing lefties...

There is a fundamental mental issue with this team, has been for a long time. I'll give Dusty a pass, the only one who can fix it is WJ by blowing it the fuck up.

The dumb play has been here for years, the acceptance of mediocrity(or worse) is palpable. The remaking of this team could very well see productive guys sent packing for being part of one or both of these issues.

IMO Harang, Dunn, JR and BP are the main guys who need to go from a strictly clubhouse point of view.

Just a little note from Josh Hamilton article in USA Today:

All-Star nod will affirm Hamilton's climb from addiction depths - USATODAY.com
He has ventured out a few times with teammates and says he feels more accepted by his Texas teammates than in Cincinnati last year, when no one invited him out. He sensed jealousy and perhaps resentment over the attention his comeback story received

"I even heard comments that I was signing too many autographs for the fans," he says. "It just got worse as the year went on."

The discord played no factor in the trade, but, Krivsky said: "There were issues in the clubhouse. Maybe that stuff would have gone by the boards had he stayed."

yeah I saw that over at Redszone...I was not real sure what to make of it, but I do remember Phillips saying last year that there were more people on the team besides Homer, Hamilton and Griffey...

Willie Cunningham was discussing it on WLW today when I was driving around, it was mostly people calling in and bitching about how none of the Reds sign autographs before the games. I have to agree they have a beef on that one. Since Hamilton is gone and Farney is on the mend, nobody wanders over to visit with the peeps. 15 mill a year (or even 1.5), you can take 15 mins out of your day to make a kid smile.

Also notice how productive young guys like Harang and BP were not on the oft mentioned "untouchable" list. I'm hoping that WJ has assesed the team chemistry/will to win and is making changes accordingly.

They are too busy figuring out new ways to suck balls that night.

These next couple games...3 against the Nats, 3 against the Cubs, and 3 against the Cards will tell the tale if we are going to get back in the race...

The cubs/Cards play this weekend, so if we can win all 3 against the Nats we can gain a game or two on those teams...

Then if we can win both series, going 2-1 in each one we would be around 5-6 out of the wildcard or better and about 8-9 out of the division heading into the All-star break...

That would put us at 47-49, even a record of 46-50 would be ok...

The second half we have a pretty easy schedule in terms of records, and lots of games against teams in the division...The only team on the schedule that worries me at all is NYmets and Arizona..

We are really chasing the Cards right now and we are 9 games back from them...There is no way their pitching keeps up what they are doing in the first half...No way...

I will not be sucked in unless we finish the first half strong like I stated above...
