Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Thompson really hits spots pretty solid...He just needs to mix it up with his change-up a little bit more, and when he misses miss out of the zone, and I also think he needs to slow down just a little...When guys get on, he seems to rush a little bit...

Pirates 9, Reds 5
Math shows Reds stink in division

Despite two Jay Bruce homers, Cincinnati falls to fifth-place Pirates in NL Central matchup.

CINCINNATI ? Dusty Baker said it before the game, said it with emphasis and positivity: "We have to play better in our division (National League Central)."
Then his Cincinnati Reds went out against a lesser light in the NLC, the fifth-place Pittsburgh Pirates, and lost for the second straight night in the near-solitude of Great American Ball Park, 9-5.
It was their 18th loss in 29 division games.
To make it worse, they can't beat teams with records under .500: 12-23.

If we just beat teams with losing records we would be a solid team...I just don't understand it...

IMHO that is a mental part of the game that starts with the manager...Need to get your team up for all games, not just ones against better teams...

There is a fundamental mental issue with this team, has been for a long time. I'll give Dusty a pass, the only one who can fix it is WJ by blowing it the fuck up.

The dumb play has been here for years, the acceptance of mediocrity(or worse) is palpable. The remaking of this team could very well see productive guys sent packing for being part of one or both of these issues.

IMO Harang, Dunn, JR and BP are the main guys who need to go from a strictly clubhouse point of view.
