Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

All of these guys should be forced to wear mittens and football helmets everywhere they go until they get above .500.

Wild pitches? Throwing errors? That stealing two bases in one play shit may work against teams that play like... well, the Reds - it doesn't work against an outfit that has their shit together like the Red Sox. How about grounding into a double play on a 3-0 count? You gotta be kidding me. And then the cherry on top - Mike Lincoln & Corey Patterson. Pretty much anytime you're tied in the 9th or in extra innings, that is a HIGH LEVERAGE situation. Lincoln does not belong in that situation ahead of the likes of Cordero, Burton & Bray. When you get in that situation, you use your best available pitcher and work your way down the pecking order as needed.

Poorly managed, dumb baseball team that consistently flinches in the critical situations both large and small.

It's been that way a long time, only the names have changed.

Sucking has been institutionalized in Cincinnati.

Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury slides into third with a stolen base as Edwin Encarnacion reaches for an errant throw from catcher Paul Bako that allowed Ellsbury to score in the first inning.

CINCINNATI -- It was Giveaway Day at Great American Ball Park, but it wasn't the fans receiving gifts.
It was the Boston Red Sox accepting gifts as if they were the Three Kings of the Orient. Bad and mediocre teams make you pay for mistakes. Good teams cut off your fingers.
After playing a near-flawless game Friday in a win, the Cincinnati Reds were all over the mistake map yesterday in a 6-4, 10-inning loss to the Red Sox.
Back-to-back mistake pitches by relief pitcher Mike Lincoln in the 10th inning to Cincinnati native Kevin Youkilis and Coco Crisp resulted in home runs.

Homer Bailey needs to be shipped back down to AAA. He just isnt a major league caliber pitcher right now. I dont know if he ever will be, but he just doesnt have the stuff to be in the big leagues. Its the 3rd inning and I have already quit watching todays game. Lack of execution is just rediculous with this team.

My one post for the day:

I never watched one second of this game once I saw the pitching matchup. Homer has the following equation working on him:

poor velocity + poor control + little to no movement = no MLB future

velocity+movement="stuff"

If he were a young guy with stuff and no control I'd say give him time he'll be fine. It doesn't matter what the age, if you have no stuff and no control you aren't MLB caliber. You can work on control, not sure how you get stuff back once its gone(and his is gone).

At this point I have higher hopes for Thompson and his surgically repaired wing than I do for HB.

I caught a little of the game on the Radio. Marty said John Sherman (whoever he is) is reporting that Walt J has been telling his counterparts that he is going to "clean house." Griffey, Dunn, and Freel will be gone and Bronson also for the right deal. Burn it down baby, burn it down.

Sounds great to me...I wouldn't mind Dunn staying, but think that the losing mentality in him is kinda lost...

I would be down for tanking this season...shipping off the guys mentioned above, getting some good young talent...Getting another high draft pick in next years draft...

Bring up some young talent, let them take their lumps at the end of the season and see if we can't have a winner next year...Follow the Dbacks and Marlins path...Then we have the money to spend to fill in the pieces to keep us good for the following years...

O yeah and with tanking this year, hopefully we get rid of Dusty's sorry ass...

Heard a rumor Jr. waived his no trade clause so the Reds can make a deal with the Rays. The freaking Rays. Not sure it is true. Just rumor at this point.

Was posted on Si.com...

If true get it done Walt...Put Dickerson in CF until Hairston is back...

What about this...

Hairston
Kepp
Bruce
Dunn
Votto
EE
Phillips
Bako/Ross

You got two guys at the top of lineup that can handle a bat, get on base and give you good at bats...

I understand Dusty won't take Phillips out of the 4 hole...So it would probably go...

Hairston
Kepp
Bruce
Phillips
Dunn
EE
Votto
Bako/Ross

Someone needs to tell Dusty Phillips is not a 4 hole hitter, Dunn should be in the 2,3, or 4 hole and Votto is not a 7 hole hitter...
