Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Speaking of Patterson, its almost criminal that Dusty insists on running his useless ass out there. Its not fair to the rest of the team to have to overcome that useless POS. I'd have to go look it up but I'm pretty sure his first 3 outs came on no more than 4 pitches. I'm also going to venture a guess he hasn't reached base safely in his last 20 or so MLB AB's.

Since going 2-3 against Florida on 5/13, Patterson is 3-39 (all singles, no walks), including nil for his last 22. His BA has dropped from a meager .236 to a sub-mendoza .195 and his OPS from an appallingly abysmal .286 to an even more schoolgirl-ish .234 in that span.

He hasn't taken a walk since April 28th.....a span of 71 at-bats.

Clearly he has the makings of a tremendous leadoff hitter. :tic:

This was in the paper last week. Hopefully Patterson gets sent back down again sometime soon.

In honor of the horrendous start that earned Opening Day starting center fielder Corey Patterson a demotion this week - he was hitting .200 with a .240 on-base percentage in 145 at-bats - we present the top 10 worst seasons by players who started for the Reds on Opening Day since 1970

When I first started collecting baseball cards, I would get a pack, and throw away all non-Reds players. Now, I have about seven hundred cards of...

[dusty]Your're missing the point....he plays CF and he's fast...thus he's a top of the order guy. Plus he goes up there swinging and keeps my bases unclogged. OBP is overrated. [/dusty]

The thing is I don't think Jocketty is going to let this go on...He is too smart...I think he only brought him back up thinking he wouldn't be playing much, but being a defensive sub...

Chris Dickerson, is putting up solid numbers lately in AAA, he has everything Patterson has, but can take a walk and will get on base more, so I would bring him up, cut ties with Patterson and never allow Dusty to think about putting him in the top 2 in the order ever again, unless he gets a different job next year...

How is that even possible? Corey Patterson must have pictures of Dusty with a transvestite hooker or something. His loyalty to such a lousy player is pathetic.

Bailey up, Herrera down...No big surprise here...

I think he will be back up eventually...

Right now tho, Bray and Affeldt are getting the job down from the left side...

Day off for Adam Dunn today as Cole Hammels is going for the Phils...

I really really really really hope that Bailey has a good start...6 innings of 2 run baseball 2 walks and 5 or 6 k's would be the perfect start for him...Need a solid 6 out of him tho and keep us in the ball game...Anything more than 6 would be bonus...

Well Bailey has thrown well so far...

It is the errors that are killing us...1 from Janish, 1 from Griffey, and 1 from Bailey...

Didn't see either of them so don't know how bad they were...

The only thing lacking from Bailey start so far are the k's...Just not sure what has happened to his high k numbers he was putting up a couple years ago...

Need to get the bats going...

Spoke too soon...First pitch homerun to Jenkins after he had gotten the first 2 guys out...

Well I guess I got my wish, other than the K numbers...

He has gone 6innings 1 ER, and only 1 walk...The problem is the Phillies have a 4 spot on the board...He has only given up 4 hits tho, and has thrown quite a bit of strikes which is good to see...

Final line 6 1/3 2 ER 5R 4 BB 1K ...

Couldn't ask for more, If Janish doesn't drop a pop up and Griffey doesn't drop a fly ball, the only blemish is the homerun he gave up...

Affeldt gave up a single to score one of the inherited runners from Bailey...

BTW the Reds just drafted 1B Yonder Alonso from Miami...Supposed to be the best hitter in the draft...

Velocity is way down from everything I have read or heard. Still if he can just be slightly above average we are in pretty good shape. Today was a quantum improvement on our usual #5 outings.

BTW, Patterson added to his 0 fer streak....now at 22-23 iirc. Completely true to form he swung at the first pitch he saw and popped out in foul ground to 1B. Walt has to step in and take him away...Dusty will never stop using him on his own.

Dissapointing series but it was to be expected. Lots of positives to take from it other than the return of the worst hitter in baseball to the team.
