Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

When the season started I figured the 85-90 range would be enough for the NL Central, but now I'm thinking it may be a different story as the Cubs look lights out. Thankfully, a lot of supposedly good teams have thus far been underwhelming (Mets, Braves, Dodgers, Rockies) so the Reds best shot will probably be the wild card.

The Cards have a better record as the 2nd place team in the Central than either the East or West division leaders.

The Cubs have played an ass load of home games and just can't keep this up imo. Way too many guys playing way over their career norms.

90 wins could very well still win the Central.

Oh yeah, by the way, my wife and I just had a baby two days ago.

Good thing we had a girl. Because I probably would've felt stupid a few years from now naming my son Jay Bruce.

Congrats on the baby girl!!

And btw I named my son after Eric Davis and I think you'd have been safe with Jay. Of course we shared the same last name so it wasn't quite that odd.

Told the wife from the day I met her if I had a son that was going to be his name and why...she thought I was kidding. Normal people just have no concept of how seriously we take this shit. You should have seen her face when I was trying to convince her to name our daughter Woody. Lost that one.

Another important game within a game stat I'm going to track is pitches per inning. We simply must start getting 7 Ip from our starters or the pen will implode. 15 PPI is the number to get you to 7 IP at about a total of 100 pitches.

We start doing that and we are in business.

Congratulations Dryden! I also thought Jay(e) would be a nice middle name for a girl.

What a complete 180 this team is making. I know we always dream during spring training about the "what ifs" but this team is really surpassing alot of expectations right now and its a LOT of fun!

We've been rightfully going nuts over what Jay Bruce has been doing but not enough is being said about Jerry Hairston. Those two have been setting the table like you can only dream of your #1 and #2 hitters. The walks, bunts for hits and moving runners around by those two have been fantastic. Add in the double steals, aside from Bruce getting caught right there, and you cant ask for a better situation as a hitter.

Junior just missed that pitch for #600. I really hope he gets it today. As much as we've been hard on Jr. this season, if his bat gets hot in this lineup right now you can turn out the lights on the opposing pitching because there is no soft spot in the lineup except for maybe the EE, Catcher, pitcher spots and those arent completely awful.
