Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Nice outing by Bailey...

Still needs to work on command and getting ahead of hitters, but he has progressed nicely in each of his starts. Easily his best. Good to see Narron has him on a short leash. He had guys warming in the 6th before Bailey had hit 80 pitches. Kept him to 93. Homer is deceptively fast. I am by no means blown away watching his fastball. That long extension must make the ball get there faster than it looks. Interesting commentary by Welsh last night. He kept saying that Homer needs to stick with the fastball until the other team adjusts and proves the can hit it. He got into trouble mostly throwing the change. He acknowleged that Homer needs to work on the change and curve, but should be more selective in his use of those pitches. I agree that he should be using those pitches just enough so that hitters know he can until they catch up with his fastball. It is intersting that for a fastball pitcher, so far he isn't striking a lot of guys out, but they don't hit his fastball hard either. It will be intersting to see how hitters adjust to him and he adjusts in turn.

I thought I'd share this story that brought a tear to my eye this morning.

I was glancing through the sports section and mentioned that Homer Bailey, the somewhat-prematurely dubbed savior of the organization, had pitched very well last night. She glanced at me and said, and I quote, "I thought the savior of the organiziation is the guy who cans Jerry Narron?"

I've never been prouder in my life.

Down a run (thanks, bullpen) with 2 out in the ninth, Narron pulled Josh Hamilton (who actually stands a chance of being able to start a rally or tie it up with one swing for... Juan Castro. It just might've been the dumbest pinch hitting move in the history of baseball.

This guy shouldn't be managing a baseball card collection, let alone an actual baseball team.

Somebody must have been in a hurry to get to the off day.

How many times do we have to see a reliever give up a couple seeing-eye base hits, only to have the manager pull him for somebody who serves up walks and gopher balls to completely blow up the game?

I noticed Castro in for Hammy. Hamilton wasnt hurt?? WTF? If thats true that he pulled Hamilton for no apparent reason then I'm officially looking for another team to support until Narron is gone. Thats some bullshit right there. The guy already went yard once in the game and is starting to come around and he pinch hits the guy with the worst BA on the team counting several pitchers?!?!? :smash::smash::smash:

Jerry Narron is the guy who wished owned a baseball card collection, so you could trade a couple Joey Cora and Joe Orsulak cards for an A-Rod or Griffey Jr rookie card

Hehe. Oops, that would be the Mrs. Katt who has sat through numerous noisy, and often violent, rants regarding the idiocy of the dipshit on the bench.

Sounding like a pretty good deal to me. Throw in a Billy Ripken and Bob Milacki and we'll talk.

I flipped over to music on the way home after Dunn grounded out in the 9th. Probably just as well, I might have intentionally driven into a bridge support when he pulled Hamilton for Castro. What a dumbass!

Your story from Mrs. Katt certainly brought a smile to my face. Yesterday had to be one of the most all-time disappointing off days in Reds history.

I'll take that Billy Ripken if it is the infamous "Fuck Face" card. I think I still have one of those. I could have sold it for like $100 the day I pulled it out of a pack. I think it's worth more like $1 now. Sell high!

Congrats to me! Leaving for vacation first thing tomorrow morning = no chance I stay up to watch tonight's joke of a ballgame. :banger:

North Carolina = no Reds coverage for 8 days straight other than the occasional, brutally painful glimpse of "Baseball Tonight". :groove:

Vacation from work = nice.....
Vacation from my sucky-ass P.O.S ballclub = priceless!

EDIT
The esteemed Mrs. Katt gets a vacation from work, a vacation from the Reds, AND a vacation from me bitching about the Reds. What a lucky gal!

I'll be very interested to see how "The Kid" gets treated on his return. Most poeple think he'll get the standing ovation of a lifetime. I hope thats true. I'd like to see him win the game tonight with a later homer and let the fans reminisce about what might have been.

I am trying to have a profanity-free weekend so watching the games might be out of the question. I've been over on RedZone the past couple of days and enough profanity escaped my lips to get me reenlisted into the Navy. According to the SportsShow here in Phoenix there was a baseball trade today and I missed it. Hope it was Jerry Narron for bag of peanuts.

Over at Sportsline there are a couple articles on teams with a decent trade stock going. Most of the Reds trade rumors center around Dunn and Griffey. The best teams to trade with this season appear to be Chicago White Sox and Texas as far as name players that can come in and get it done. A very very interesting thought came to mind regarding the Texas Rangers. Eric Gagne seems to be trade bait at this point and a perfect fit would be Adam Dunn, who would really love to be back in Texas playing ball. The biggest problem I see with that trade is that the Rangers have no chance of winning this season so the trade would most likely not improve their overall organization. The Reds on the other hand would be looking pretty darn good in the bullpen by gaining Gagne and tossing some of the rag arms out to sea. This trade would never happen under our current regime and therein lies the rub. How do they ever expect to get over the hump and improve if the main reasons for failure continue to be there. A tree with rotten roots may produce leaves once in a while but sooner or later they fall and you're left with only the rotten roots.
