Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Anybody else notice the other night that when Castro pinch hit for Lohse the other night that Lohse had a better batting average?

Yep.

Also the other night I was going off about Ross swinging 3-0 with 2 outs and the pitcher up next. Thats normal baseball but in our case the point I was making that Ross's best chance to get on base is to take a walk and that the pitcher has better hitting numbers than he does.

Overall though I am ok with all glove no hit types at SS and C...IF you mash at every other position. Thats why its so bad when Narron does his nightly lineup cluster fuck and gets castro, Moeller, Hopper and the like in the same lineup on the same nights to go along with Ross/Gonzales etc.

Well, he wasn't DFA'd, but according to Trent's blog, Majewski down to Louisville, Salmon back up again.

Cincinnati Reds: Redlegs vs. Chuck Norris 6.15

Nothing surprising with this move. Hopefully Salmon can throw strikes. Majewski needs the break to go clear his head. He just looked deflated after he gave up that 1st hit yesterday and bereft of confidence. I'm willing to cut him some slack. With his injury last season, he really hasn't thrown at the ML level in a year. He got very little work in the spring. He was just starting to build strength and come back to form when his sister died and he went almost another 2 weeks without throwing. He was supposed to stay in L'Ville until he was able to throw on back-to-back days... he never did. He was scheduled to do so, but they called him up instead. I'm not making excuses for the guy, but most players under those circumstances are going to be a bit rusty. In all fairness, Coffey should be holding his own and Majewski should have had a little more time at AAA to build his strength and not been thrust into high leverage situations right away. Unfortunately, this team has Weathers, Coutlangus, and prayer right now so he wasn't afforded that opportunity. He didn't ask to be traded to the Reds and unfortunately for him, I think as long as he is around he'll be a whipping boy.

I agree with the move, I don't think he should have been DFA'd either. I just said that because a lot of fans were probably expecting him to be. I actually still have a little faith in the guy being able to turn it around, and I do agree it looks much more mental with him at this point. An extended trip to Louisville will hopefully do him some good.

False Hope emerging?

Whats sick about this series with the Rangers, is that we actually have a better record than they do and probably the better team. If we could trade Narron back to Texas before the first pitch tonight I'd feel a hell of a lot better.

On another "Reds" note: We play Oakland following this series with just about ZERO chance of beating their pitching.

Just thought I'd project my ray of sunshine out there this afternoon.:wink2:

I may have to recant my previous post. I had forgotten about Gagne. Brutal. Belisle has one bad inning on one major mistake pitch and we lose a lead. Brutal. Hammy!!!!!! Damn! Hamilton flys out at the wall to end it.

Gagne is still a damn nasty pitcher. Why can't the Reds FO ever make a push at a guy like that. We had the nasty boys, but they developed their "nastiness" here. No way we could've gotten them through acquisitions.

Special(in the retard sense of the word) K tried. He gave away Kearns and Lopez for some magic beans. I can't wait to see how badly he fucks up trading Dunn.

Randall K came over from the Mets iirc.

Maybe. I don't recall him being spectacular though until after getting here and then after leaving he had some good years. All four of those guys became excellent individual closers and we had all of them on the same team. We also had Trevor Hoffman, only 500 career saves, and let him get away. That one still makes me want to puke.:shake:

Even if the trade would have worked out though, none of those guys are near Gagne's level now, let alone the Gagne from a few years ago.

Sammy Sosa's grand slam off Reds pitcher Matt Belisle in the fifth inning was the 599th home run of Sosa's career.

CINCINNATI -- What do you get when you add the second-worst pitching staff in the National League to the second-worst pitching staff in the American League?
If you guessed fireworks, buy yourself a crate of Cracker Jacks, open your favorite beverage and read along.
The Reds and Texas Rangers took turns lighting up the scoreboard for the first five innings last night in Great American Ball Park much to the delight of the 27,747 fans who bought tickets to watch two last-place teams slug it out.
When the last Roman candle fizzled, the Rangers owned a 7-6 victory because of a grand slam from Sammy Sosa. The fifth-inning slam off Matt Belisle was the 599th home run of Sosa's career.

Myers was the Mets' closer for the 2 years before coming to Cincinnati. He was solid, but '90 was his breakout year. Some were pretty upset with moving Franco for him. '91 was a disaster. I had almost forgot about him starting a few games. He went on to have some great years after leaving Cincy. Interesting character and tremendous part of that championship. Long live Randall Kirk!

Hopefully they give him the Milton treatment. "Go on down here for an assignment. You just take a left and then another left then a right and then....."

We can only hope.

Can we say enough about the surging Ken Griffey Jr? The guy is unbelievable. I know he doesn't love playing right field but if it keeps him in the lineup, do it and do it often!

My thoughts have always been that the better Junior is playing, the worse off the Reds have been. I could be wrong, but it certainly holds true today. This is the ultimate sell-high if you ask me. I love the guy, and love seeing him get hot like this, because it actually makes the Reds worth watching, but this kind of a surge is what's going to get him a ticket out of town, IMHO. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The guy deserves to win. Somewhere. He's obviously not the reason that we keep losing, and his contract would pay for a lot of help in other areas.
