Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Well, just got back from the ballpark. Had to go and get a beer in the 7th. Magic comes in and throws 2 nasty pitches and then proceeds to throw nothing but dog crap. Stanton was no better. Homer was solid, but I must say it was nothing like the first time I saw Rijo in person. Homer looked great and was efficient through 6, but I was not blown away by him. Hamilton was a mess in CF and left with "dizziness." I hope it is nothing serious. What looked to be a promising day turned out to be a real turd. 32K showed up for that disaster. Griffey looked good though, and I noticed how slim he looked. I guess his medical issues did his weight some good.

I wonder if Majewski will be designated for assignment here soon unless his performances get better....??

If it doesn't happen now, its not going to happen. Krivsky needs to fess up and bite the bullet about this one. Majewski is definitely not the answer.

Listening to 700 WLW this afternoon and they were saying essentially the same thing.

The trade, according to them, was equivalent to settlers getting Long Island for beads....and Krivsky has the beads now....

WK had better do some damn fine trading at the deadline or even the most ardent supporters are going to have to admit he's worthless. He's picked a couple of nice finds from the scrap heap but overall he's been shitty.

Totally screwed.

If you are a GM and needing help to get over the hump for the rest of the year, is there really anyone on this team that you want? Seriously?

Aaron Harang, Ken Griffey Jr. and maybe Phillips. Thats freaking it fellas. Disgusting.

There's no way we deal Phillips, Bailey or Hamilton (his price is too good). Most likely no way we're dealing Edwin Encarnacion or Harang.

That leaves Jr., maybe Dunn and whom? Prospects? Prospects aren't helping anyone get over the hump. Arroyo just signed a long-term deal as did Harang so any trade there might be a sticky situation. No one in there right mind would want anyone out of our bullpen other than Coffey.

Kyle Lohse, Matt Belisle and maybe Todd Coffey. I really don't want to get rid of Coffey, just get a manager in here who won't destroy his arm and confidence. Lohse might be the most attractive to other teams but he wont return much. Belisle the same. The bottom line here is the only way the Reds trade at the deadline is that someone goes whom most of us would rather keep. Any help coming back from a trade right now is going to be non-existent. The best we can hope for are a bunch of major league ready prospects, and who is going to give those up? Word is Oakland really likes Dunn. Dealing with Billy Beane would be Krivsky's last option, or it damn well should be.

We will have to either watch these shit heads for the rest of the season, or a bunch of AAA guys mixed in with crippled veterans (read Mike Stanton/Juan Castro) that arent major league quality. I try to say the hell with them everyday but I keep finding myself checking the boxscore hoping for a miracle, as usual. I've never been a quitter and I wish I could right now. The whole thing stinks to high heaven and there are no dump trucks available to ship out the major turds causing this dung pile. Bring on some football damnit!

BB36,
Your trading chips lok this way to me. I just lumped them into 3 basic categories, obviously each guy has his own value and just becaue they are in the same group doesn't mean I think they have equal value.

A List Dunn and JR.

Talent for talent they should bring the biggest return however both have contracts that are going to change things. Essentially, how much cash you send the other way dictates what type of prospect(s) come back your way.

B List Arroyo, Lohse, Weathers.

Pitching being at the premium it is this pile should bring a bigger return. All have contracts that mean your trading talent for talent. Teams in an arms race will over pay, it happens every year. Here is WK's chance to knock one into the river.

C List Conine, Hatte, Freel, Nacho Libre, maybe Stanton

The type of guys who could fill a bench role for a contender and should be able to get a couple of midling prospects.

Outside the box I would also entertain offers for Alex Gonzalez depending on the return I got from the departing names above. If I came into possesion of a cheap, young all glove no hit SS I would be willing to part with the iron pyrite that is Gonzalez.

Guys with no fucking value that simply must go away:
Castro, Santos, Majewski, Stanton if you can't trade him.

So essentially, if a GM had the skill and the vision there is some stuff there to help us going foreward IMO. There is also about 21M coming off the books next year.

If WK can get his shit together and do some good things at the deadline we could be looking OK headed into the future. If his ignorant ass stands pat like I think he will then the lynch mob needs to form, he is completely inept.

Oh, a couple of other comments about yesterday's game I almost forgot...

I was surprised they counted all of Homer's runs as earned. One run scored when Hamilton bobbled the ball and it was scored an error. Sometimes I think you need and advanced degree in nuclear science or something to figure out what is and is not an earned run. Homer was also the victim of a drop by Hamilton that was scored as a hit. He had a long run to get to it and was going for an over-the-shoulder catch, but it hit him right in the glove. The was also a play where it looked like Phillips was covering the bag for no reason and a ground ball that had DP written all over it went through for a hit. Not sure what was going on with that play but BP was in an odd spot when the ball went through. Point being that Homer pitched better than his line. Solid but not dominant.

Alex Gonzalez's home run was absolutely bizzare. It looked like he only took a half swing and popped it up but it just kept going. The way he swung and it came off the bat I thought it would be medium deep in left. Looked like something from Angels in the Outfield from my vantage point. Of course, I was in the Mezzanine and sometimes it is hard to judge flyballs from up there. Now Griffey's HR was just smoked.

Bailey lead blown by bullpen
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

Nine outs were all that stood between Homer Bailey's second win in as many starts and a second straight series win by the Reds.
But Bailey walked the first two hitters in the seventh inning. Gary Majewski came in, and it went from bad to ugly. Mike Stanton followed but couldn't stem the bleeding.
And the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left town with a 9-7 victory, taking the final two games of the series.

Continued....

Wish the guy would say what he really means......

Holy shit I have a new favorite writer.

At some point, seriously, don't the people that run the Reds have to acknowledge just how incompetent Jerry Narron is? And, if they do not, doesn't that say plenty about their own incompetence?
Good lord, I hate them all.

That guy should get a Pulitzer.
