Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I'm getting a little choked up watching the ceremony they're having for Griffey at Safeco Field. These days, it can be easy to forget just how great a player he was when he was in Seattle - and how he seemed to love going to the ballpark and playing the game. You don't really see anything like this ceremony these days. The city of Seattle truly loves the guy, and it can be easy for the rest of us to lose sight of what he means to that city and that franchise still. I remember this kind of excitement about him in Redsland leading up to his acquisition, and that quickly faded away. Part of it was the injuries, part of it the money, and part of it I think is just the nature of folks in this town. He was my favorite player growing up, and still is. Maybe it's just the warm afterglow of that ceremony talking, but I've always wanted to see him be great as a Red and I've always wanted to see him finish his career as a Red.

By the way, I read on Sportsline today that Mike Hargrove is on the hotseat, and that even if they continue having a good season that he might be gone because Ichiro is in his contract year and him and Hargrove don't get along. I'd just like to say that if he gets let go by the Mariners, I'd like to see the Reds take a long look at hiring him as Narron's replacement.

Now THAT'S funny. With Phillips on 1st, the M's pitcher throws over a couple times before pitching to Griffey. For doing so, he got booed by his own home crowd. :) Then Griffey hits a sharp grounder for a single on the first pitch.

Why is Hamilton batting 8th? There must be something wrong with him. First they pinch hit Fidel for him and now he's way down in the order. Narron is such a little league coach it makes me sick. That L/R/L crap should die with him when he goes!

I really don't mind him hitting eighth right now. It'll be nice to have somebody at the bottom of the order who can maybe drive in some runs if somebody in the middle of the order happens to get on base.

Of course, as I write that, Gonzalez drives in three runs with a double to left field. :)

Big bases clearing double by Gonzo! Reds up 4-0 in the first. As long as Harang goes the distance....this one belongs to the Reds.:tongue2:

If Harang comes out we could still be in trouble.:!

Give the blowpen a little credit. If Harang only goes eight innings and turns it over to Weathers, they might win 4-3.

David Ross with a 2-run homer.

Remember when this guy couldn't even put bat on ball earlier this season? Don't look now, but he just hit his tenth HR. He's still not hitting like last year (and may never play like that again), but I'm very happy with him with his play behind the plate and perhaps 20 HR by the end of the season.

Ross is on fire! Phillips is on fire!

How did the M's not make a World Series in the mid-to-late 1990s? They had three first ballot HOFers in their prime or getting close to it (Griffey, Rodriguez & Johnson), plus guys like Edgar Martinez and Jay Buhner. Of course, there were some pretty good Indians and Yankees teams during that era too, but it's still kinda baffling when you think of it.
