FORT MYERS, Fla. - Two days after the Reds announced to the world he would move to right field, Ken Griffey Jr. said:
"It's no big deal."
Others would beg to differ. Griffey, after all, won 10 Gold Gloves as a center fielder. When he has played in the field, he has played 2,113 games in center, two games in right and two games at first base.

Milton says tough outing no cause for alarm

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Eric Milton is usually as hard on Eric Milton as anyone. But he was not particularly down after a rough outing Wednesday in the Reds' 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Milton gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings.
"I was a lot better in the fourth and the fifth," he said. "In the first three innings, I felt like I was close to pitching well."

Al Behrman Associated Press Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. says he still has some pain in his injured hand when taking batting practice.
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Ken Griffey Jr. didn't want to talk about his move to right field yesterday, insisting it's no big deal. His reluctance to discuss it suggested something entirely different.
Manager Jerry Narron also dodged the subject of his outfielder-on-the-move. Best to leave that subject alone for now.
They won't be able to avoid it much longer.

Reds' Hamilton stays grounded

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Josh Hamilton didn't know what his batting average was going into Friday's game with his old team, Tampa Bay.
"What is it?" he asked.
".457," he was told.
"Thank you," Hamilton said.
"It's not bad," he was told.
"It sure has dropped a lot," Hamilton said. "I better get going."

SARASOTA, Fla. - Jerry Narron won. The Reds manager got Ken Griffey Jr. on the field and playing right field in time to have him out there for Opening Day.
That was the objective all along.
I'm not going to pretend to know all that went on behind closed doors, but Griffey's assertion that the switch from center field to right field was no big deal is horse hockey.
