Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

on a positive note Dunn seems to be in mid season from. Today he went 0 for 3 with 2 SOs and 3 LOB

Dunn has been swinging the bat well this spring. He had an opposite field single yesterday to drive in a run. Not something he did alot last season. Everybody has those kind of days. I've mostly only have been able to read box scores this spring, but Dunn seems to be more aggressive at the plate. I've never had problems with Dunn striking out too often, but I don't like the number of times he strikes out looking with runners on. He doesn't seem to be doing that so far this year. I'd like to give him some benefit of the doubt.

Saw an article where Jerry talks about batting Phillips 3rd and Dunn 6th just to keep the R-L-R-L thing in order.

The Reds don't have the talent to suffer a fool at the manager position.

I agree with the last statement. A good manager can maybe win you a game or two a year, but a bad one can lose you a dozen. Anyways, looks like Dunn will be in the #2 hole, not the 6 spot. Not like it really matters as much as Naroon fools (pun intended) with the line-up.

I saw one yesterday that said the lineup he had besides Votto at first for Hatte who was nicked up would be the lineup on opening day...

It was Freel, Dunn, Phillips, Griff, EE, Hatte, Gonzalez, Ross...

Overall that is not a bad lineup you have speed with Freel and Phillips, Power with Dunn and Griff, Contact and Rbis with EE, and hopfully the last 3 guys can produce some runs and knock some guys in...

Gonzalez brings some speed as well...

At least the bottom part of the order beats the Jiminez, Larue, Larson thing or whoever we had at the bottom of the lineup a couple years ago...

I really don't mind Dunn in the 2 hole with his OBP. Of course I say that knowing our team can't have our best hitter bat 3rd, so between 2nd or 6th I think Dunn is more productive in the 2 hole. It all depends on the #3 hitter being a force. BTW, JR aint the fucking answer Jerry !!

He's got Phillips and EE ass backward. Phillips offensive game is completely predicated on contact, he simply won't take a walk. Pitchers will figure that out real quick coming from your #3 hitter and he will become an out machine. No way around it, Phillips is in no way shape or form our best option for a #3 hitter. Jerry is a slave to the old fashioned R-L-R-L thing because he lacks the fucking brains to do anything else.

Narron's got that R-L-R-L thing going today against the Red Sox. That shit only works if you're managing against Bob Boone.

I don't mind Dunn batting second. Hopefully Narron somehow stumbles upon the novel idea of batting Encarnacion third between Dunn and Griffey

I would love to see EE in the 3 hole...

How about this one?

Freel
Hatt
EE
Dunn
Griff
Philips
Ross/Gonzales
Gonzales/Ross

I know, I know, it isn't RLRL, but it just may be crazy enough to work?!?!

Obviously wouldn't work with a LH on the mound, can't see Conine in the 2 hole, but Hatte seems like the ideal fit in the 2. Doesn't strike out, moves runners, can allow Freel to move first to third with the hit-n-run. And EE would be getting good pitches with runners in scoring position and Dunn behind him.

Agree 100%. Phillips is no 3 hitter and loses all value hitting anywhere above 6.

I like it. I don't mind Hamilton in either the 1st or 5th in that order either when he plays. I also think that Ross is going to really produce some runs with full season as long as he's healthy. On potential, god forbid, that lineup could do some really awesome damage. In reality, ugh.......

Thats about as good as you can do with what we have. That being said anyone who looks at that lineup and thinks our only issues this year will be pitching is in for a rough ride this summer.

EE and Dunn have to stay healthy and produce big time because Hatt has a pattern of bad year after good, Griffey is a shell of his former self and that bottom third has the potential to be absolutely dreadful if Phillips and Ross have the type of regression I expect them to.

Hamilton is the wildcard. Prior to this I didn't expect anything from him, now we almost need it.

BOY oh boy. Milton got tagged to the tune of 5 HR's in about a 6 IP stint vs the Pirates yesterday. Nothing too shocking in that except it was their FUCKING HIGH A TEAM!!!!!! :yow1: :yow1: :yow1: :yow1:

The reds have to pay him the 9M no matter what, but if they are serious in what B-cast says about wanting to win they have to DL or cut this guy. He is simply done. Belisle, Sarloos, Livingston, me, you and my 90 year old grandmother can all do as good a job or better at the backend of the rotation.
