Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

From every report I have read Homers 3rd pitch(changeup) still isn't MLB quality. There are a lot of other little things that make me say keep him down but this is the main one. I don't want him up here getting shelled and with no 3rd pitch and spotty control of the other 2 he will get crushed. That often leads power pitchers to try too hard and God forbid could hurt his arm.

As much as I'd like him to be ready there is absolutely nothing to be gained by rushing him. If we don't see him till 08 thats fine by me.

I have the same opinion that we should not bring him up until he is ready, but he has been dominant in his last two starts wher ehe has had great control...

I think that we will see him sometime in the season for nothing other than to put butts in the seat later in the season and to see what he has, but if he can continue to dominate the way he has, then I would have to believe that he is close to ready and for a team that is going no where, they might as well get him some time and some experience in the majors...

Also the team that Homer threw against tonite was made up of 6 guys with majors experience and 1 who is the whitesox #1 prospect...

I do believe that his other pitches his very very good 12 to 6 curve and change have gotten better, as he has been working on them quite a bit, and i don't think they are letting him rely heavily on his fastball...

I agree that there is no reason to rush Bailey. Just speculating based on the open spot on the 40. It will be interesting to see what move they make if they have to DL Freel. Hamilton won't be available for a few more days (sometimes making a sketchy move like putting a guy on the DL for a stomach flu bites you in the ass). I guess Dickerson would get the call. I can't see them bringing up Votto to ride the pine. Hopefully Freel is fine and back in the lineup by the end of the week. Conine as the 4th outfielder is a scary proposition.

No Schwab, I cannot see the Reds trading Bailey and can think of only some extreme circumstances where it would make any sense to do so.

Votto has been logging some outfield time, but I think that was more to the fact that Louisville is short on outfielders...

Also I would see Wise getting the call over Dickerson, if Freel goes on the DL, b/c Dickerson has struggled to hit AAA pitching, but has played a great CF...

I've been one of the guys being hard on EdE in the past. Yesterdays, game was a thing of beauty. The kid has the skills he just needs a Psychiatrist to keep his head right.

I think Lohse is a servicable #5 starter. I don't know what we could get in a trade but if Lohse or Belisle would get us anything in return that could help us long term I would be interested in doing that. We have Livingston, Dumatrait and of course Bailey waiting for their turn. The future of the rotation is in excellent condition. It was very encouraging to see Lohse out there just pitching yesterday and not trying to over pitch. The defense behind him was what we had all hoped would be there all season.

The outfield situation should be fine. Hamilton is due to come back in a few days and other than maybe Dunn, everyone should be ok to play the next 4 or 5. I think Adam's due for a day off inthere somewhere. I'm please with the way Hopper has come in and played, not spectacular but solid.

Hey guys, for all of our torment, and piss and vinegar about this team so far this season we're 9.5 games back as of today. If we could get within 5 by the All-Star break we would have a legitimate chance to make the comeback. It would sound pretty far fetched this time last week and they've still got a long way to go, but its do-able. If we can hold on until help arrives, who knows.

Just take one more look at our roster and you won't feel that optimistic...

You know it's bad when not even cbf40 can be optimistic.

Bingo...Those are the exact same type of posts that I always try and find away to make and put a positive spin on things, and I was trying the past couple weeks, but at this point this team is one big stinkin pile of dog shit and there is no positive light you can put on it, we have to clean it up and start over...

Damn straight bitches!!!!

If you look at this team as a whole its not too bad. The problem is that when the ring leader is a jackass and people don't know where they belong, they can't find their niche. The Reds have some good players on the roster. The fact that the good players don't know when they are going to be playing, what position they are playing, what position they are batting or which affiliate they're suiting up for is the freakin problem! How about some damn continuity Narron! The starting rotation has been outstanding as far as I'm concerned and that was the biggest question mark heading into this season. Other than Harang and Arroyo we had not clue. Lohse tosses a complete game shutout and Belisle leads us into the 8th with only one run against as our 3rd and 4th pithchers!?!!? Something aint stirring the Kool-Aid my friends. There's enough offense on this team to score runs if the manager leaves them alone. Are they the Yankees offensively? Of course not, but I'd take our starting rotation over theirs right now any day of the week.

Ok, so what gives then? The pieces almost seem to be there. Why arent they performing on a daily basis? I really hate to blame coaching, because I absolutely despise that mind frame but there is no other explanation for this season.

The bullpen has imploded no doubt but everything else is pretty much ahead of our expectations isnt it? Hamilton has been a dream. Griffey has been injury free, knock on wood. Dunn has shown flashes as have Encarnacion and Phillips. The starting rotation has been solid if not spectacular all season long. To start this season we all knew there were question marks. Most of these guys have been producing for the most part. Sarloos actually has it right when he bitched about being sent down to AAA. He's only had about 4 bad innings all season. Those innings pretty much cost us each of those games, but he's the scapegoat right now. The root of the problem is much, much deeper than the #5 starter ladies and gentlemen. The root of the problem is that the leadership in this organization doesn't know if it is coming or goiing. Any rotisserie hack can tell you who is producing and who isnt, but the people in Cincinnati's front office cant. Its pretty obvious where the changes need to be made from our end. Why can't Bob C see it? That's the real question.

Like most of you guys that will take the time to read my ranting, I will not give up on the season until we are mathematically eliminated. I remember every hit, pitch and every call by Marty and Joe during our last championship. I want it again just like you do. Maybe if we scream loud enough management will hear us. If not I'll go hoarse anyway because this team deserves it, one way or the other.

Forgive me for not being thrilled with 2 wins in a row. I enjoy watching good pitching and defense, but I don't think this team will sustain any kind of winning streak this season. On a positive note, Homer Bailey might not be the guy Reds fans should be beating the drum to see up in the bigs, Johnny Cueto jumped from A to AAA and won his first game. How about that?
