Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

From C. Trent's blog:

Quick note from the Reds: Marcus McBeth was reinstated from the bereavement list today and then was optioned back to Class AAA Louisville. I guess I won't do the "Welcome-back-to-the-team-Marcus" note for tomorrow's paper.

Way to start the arb clock on him and not even bother to get him in a game. The ineptitude of this organization is at times remarkable.

Salmon was his replacement on the roster when he went on bereavement leave. Nobody comes up, Salmon just doesn't go down. They should have DFA'd Santos.

Agreed.

BTW he only had 3 days count against his arb time. It was a waste for those 3 days but its not that bad compared to the stupidity of keeping some of these crappy vets while kids with stuff ride the pine or play in L'ville.

I think I peaved me more in that they were quoting the minor league staff as saying he was the most MLB ready guy they had down there. If he was more "ready" than Salmon last week, what changed? (Although, I wouldn't have sent Salmon down either). The arb thing probably will not make a difference in the long run and I totally agree with you on the greater issue.

Bray thru a scoreless inning in Sarasota last night and Majew threw a scoreless inning in Louisville...

I am all for having the bullpen of Burton, Salmon, McBeth, Coffey, Bray, Cooter, Majew, and Weathers when all these guys are healthy and ready to go...

Also we will need to fit Guardado in somewhere when he is healthy...And if the other guys are throwing well and Coffey keeps up what he is doing know, he needs a trip to Louisville...

Of course this pen means that you get rid of Stanton(which I don't see them doing), Santos(hopefully soon), and Sarloos(unless he keeps the 5th starter spot and they get rid of Milton...

Also you have Pelland and Medlock who are both in Chatanooga right now that might put their name in the hat come August...

I can live with that pen but you have an awful ot of names that have never thrown a pitch in anger at the MLB level or are coming back from injury. Keep the shuttle from L'vill gassed up, give evyone a fair shot and lets see who rises by the end of the year.

BTW, I think Majewski's shoulder is never going to be right.

If EG comes back and can pitch I'd nominate Coffey to vacate a spot as of right now, but again lets see some of these guys first, then decide if and when EG comes back.

I like Sarloos some, give him the 5 spot untill we can do better.

Yep, need to start figuring out what they have for the future, cause Stanton and Santos are neither the present nor the future. Making another trade for BP help is probably the last thing they should do. I'd rather they watch the waiver wire for a wayward starter that might be coverted.

I thought Saarloos should have gotten the chance at the 5th over Belisle, but what do I know. Belisle has been better than I expected, hope he continues.

EE was 3-3 b4 he was taken out tonite...Not sure if it means anything, but weird that you would take a guy that is hitting that good out...His average is up over 400 in his short stint there...

Also Votto hit a grandslam and after his slow start he has his average up to 290+ and is showing more power...I think that he will be up early and Hatte could be sent to a contender clsoe to the deadline...

Nice to see the Reds get a win tonite...They could possibly put a nice streatch together here with the Nationals and Pitrates coming to town...

Good win. Had to wonder if something was wrong with Bronson. Although after throwing a CG his last time out, not surprised he was flat. Every time I say to DFA Santos, he has a good outing. All I can say is, thank goodness I'm not a Nats fan.
