Girlfriend: "Who's that guy?"

Me: "That's Victor Santos."

Girlfriend: "Who the hell is that?"

Me: "That's the guy they put in when they've given up."

Girlfriend: "But it's only the 2nd inning!"

Me: "Exactly."

I'll always love my Reds but I hate the organization.

This owner and GM are just Lidner and Dan O in disguise. Marge and Bowden before them.

This shit is getting old.

No kidding about the organization...I can't this shit...WTF it Sarloos getting the call as the fifth starter...Livingston should of made this team out of STraning and he should still be the fifth starter...

The only reason I am still somewhat interested is due to all the young guys that should be up soon, the hoping that Narron gets fired and the fact that we should be able to put a team on the field that will compete next year...

Really I am more intereted in what is going on in Louisville, Chatanooga, Sarasota, and Dayton...

Hamilton's back in the game

Drug, alcohol violations behind him, he's sober and playing for Reds

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - As an 18-year-old, Josh Hamilton had it all. Five years later, drug and alcohol abuse took it away.
As a kid out of high school, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays made Hamilton the first pick in the 1999 draft. He was a prospect's prospect on the order of Alex Rodriguez, a player who graded off the charts with virtually every scout who saw him.
By 2004, Hamilton had run out of chances. He was suspended by Major League Baseball for violations of its drug policy before he played an inning in the big leagues.

New lows for Lohse, Reds
Starter can't hold lead, knocked out early
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

CLEVELAND - Kyle Lohse was one of the pleasant surprises for the Reds early in the season.
Now, the surprising thing is how quickly he has lost it.
The Reds staked him to a three-run lead Friday night, and he couldn't hold it for an inning. The result was another ugly loss - 9-4 to the Cleveland Indians - in the ugly streak that is becoming the Reds' season.
The loss was the sixth in seven games for the Reds and 13th in 16 games.
Lohse went 1 1/3 innings, the shortest start of his career, and allowed seven runs on seven hits. All were bullets.
"When I threw it outside, they hit it hard," Lohse said. "When I threw it down the middle, they hit it hard."
Lohse has lost his last five starts. More troubling is the fact he's given up 13 runs on 15 hits in his last 5 2/3 innings.

Krivsky still backing Narron
Reds GM peeved about media speculation
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

CLEVELAND - Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said in the strongest possible terms after the Reds' loss Friday that manager Jerry Narron's job is safe.
Krivsky was miffed over my response to a question about Narron's future in a second-inning interview with Marty Brennaman on the Reds radio broadcast.
Brennaman asked if I thought Narron's job were safe if the team continued to struggle. I replied that I didn't think it was.

Saarloos prepares for first Reds start
Reds notebook
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

CLEVELAND - Kirk Saarloos is in the Reds' rotation.
He'll start either Sunday in Aaron Harang's spot or Tuesday in Eric Milton's.
When Saarloos will start depends on whether Harang returns in time from bereavement leave.
I'm very happy," Saarloos said. "I think any pitcher would be."
Saarloos has started 69 games in the majors. He was 6-6 with a 4.88 ERA in 16 starts with Oakland last year. He last pitched Sunday in Los Angeles.
He threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Friday.
"I don't think pitch count will be a big deal with me," Saarloos said. "I did the same thing last year, and I threw 104 pitches the first time out.

Reds can't stop the losing

Saturday, May 19, 2007 3:31 AM
By Jim Massie

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CLEVELAND -- Jet lag of two varieties greeted the Cincinnati Reds yesterday morning. The cobwebs had yet to clear from an overnight flight from San Diego that deposited the players in the team hotel at 6:52 a.m. Thursday.

The hangover accompanying the club's horrific start to the season remained the larger problem. That slump led to a team meeting and a workout in Jacobs Field some five hours before an interleague game with the Indians.

I saw on CBS Sportsline that Hamilton went to the hospital for stomach problems. He's been released but it's doubtful that he plays tonight.

I also saw on there that the Reds finally filed a formal grievance with MLB over The Trade. As a fan I'd like to file a grievance of my own against Wayne Krivsky for making the damn deal in the first place. If the grievance is upheld, then the terms of the deal might be reworked. I say if the Nats send us Cordero and Zimmerman that oughta about even things back up.

Reds outfielder Hamilton in the hospital

Associated Press

CLEVELAND - Cincinnati rookie outfielder Josh Hamilton, who has made an inspiring comeback from alcohol and drug addiction, was taken to a hospital Saturday with a stomach problem.
Hamilton was transported by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital at 5:45 a.m. A Reds spokesman said Hamilton was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, an inflammation or infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
Hamilton returned to the team's downtown hotel. The Reds said he was day to day.
The 25-year-old has quickly become a favorite with Cincinnati fans, who have admired both his ability to turn his life around and his all-around game. He was named the NL's top rookie in April after hitting six homers and driving in 13 runs.

Ross, Phillips deliver key HRs
Reds belt Tribe for 4th victory in last 17 games
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]
1x1.gif

CLEVELAND - There's nothing like a couple of three-run jacks to cure what ails a struggling team.
That's what the Reds got from Brandon Phillips and David Ross in a 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Jacobs Field Saturday night.
"American League baseball," Reds manager Jerry Narron said in a matter-of-fact tone.
The win was only the fourth for the Reds in their last 17 games.
"They all are nice right now," David Weathers said. "It'd be nice if we played the University of Cincinnati and won. We need Ws."
A lot of the credit goes to Weathers. He squashed an Indians' rally in the eighth when it was a 7-4 game and pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

Grievance filed over trade for Majewski
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

CLEVELAND - The Reds confirmed that they filed a grievance with Major League Baseball against the Washington Nationals over the Gary Majewski trade.
General manager Wayne Krivsky would not comment on the grievance.
The Reds have insisted since the eight-player trade July 13 that the Nationals were not forthcoming enough about Majewski's shoulder condition at the time of the trade.
Majewski had been on anti-inflammatories all season and had a cortisone injection a week before the trade.
Majewski was ineffective after the trade. He ended up on the disabled list, Aug. 7-31, with shoulder soreness.

Another example of the only way we win is to score 9-10 runs and the other team simply misses its chance to jump on the pen. Stormy did his level best to blow it, they simply didn't take the gift.

Law of averages says we have to win at least 2-3 games out of every 10. Nothing to get excited about.
