Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I'm not sure that big rally is going to continue from last night with Peavy on the hill for SD. He's gone four straight games with 10+ K's, I'm guessing a Hamels-esque outcome from him tonight.

I guess that's my point in throwing Weathers 3 innings last night, Narron basically said screw tommorrow, we have to win this one. To me, that is "panic" mode thinking. How many times have you seen a manager approach a game as "must win" in May? I'm not saying it was the wrong move, just that it was very revealing as to the mindset of Narron and his faith in the pen. I hope this was the proverbial shot in the arm that this team needed, and would be good to see this team play with a sense of urgency. Kudos to Weathers for throwing 3 perfect innings and only 31 pitches, but he can't do that every night.

Narron should be panicking - there's something at stake - his job.

The FO shouldn't be panicking - this season is lost, and there's no need to panic if there's nothing at stake. The rest of the season should be used for team and player development.

All I'm asking from here on out is that the young guys get better, don't get hurt, and that they don't embarrass themselves on nights that I happen to go to the ballpark.

I would say that the season is over in terms of competeing for the division, unless we would have a hot stretch, and the bullpen got its shit together, but this team should still go out there and compete and play around .500 baseball, and we should be more apt to play the younger guys that can do the things, just as well as the ole scrappy vets and lets play the rest of the season out as a way to get ready for the run that we can make next year...

We will have the pieces next year...

Also of note...today at Louisville EE had the game tying rbi double in the 9th and the go ahead 2 run homerun in the 12th...

Majew threw a scoreless inning and Salmon gave up a lead off homerun, but struck out the side then for the S...

I just saw where Bailey went on the DL with a pulled groin. Thats the kind of thing that can linger for a while. I hope he doesnt see a mound for at least two weeks. We need him to come up at the end of June and start playing Major League baseball. His time has come, he just needs to stay healthy. Very good news coming from Guardado and Bray also. Who knows what can happen in the next two months. We definitely need the luck to start going the other way though.

I still can't believe the manager sent him out there the last game for that hit and then a sac bunt...It was obvious that he should of been takin' out, he was at about at 95 pitches...

With that said it was said that if he was at the major league level he would of thrown his scheduled start...The minors dl is only 7 days so he might throw this Sunday...

As for him coming up, I am honestly not sure if he is quite ready yet...I know that he is working on his secondary pitches, but his walks have been up and K's down...I would give him until probably the end of June and sometime in August if he takes care of the walks...No reason to have him come up and struggle throwing strikes here and get his mind all messed up...

Yeah we should have a decent pen in a month or so...

Its been another great pitching effort by the starter. Here comes the bullpen though probably with Arroyo at 110 pitches.

I'll be damned he's staying in there. I just hope we can hang on til Hoffmans outta there.

Well the baseball gods got us again...Cameron trys to bunt, and doesnt get it down, and of course with 2 stikes he gets a hit, then the guy hits the ball back to Arroyo and the ball bounces and just won't stick in Freel's glove...

Now lets hope that Freel can get out of this bases loaded no one out jam...

First things first.. Ken Griffey Jr. is not done people. If he were on a team that had pennant hopes he might be chasing Bonds for Aarons HR title. Thats no bullshit. The sweetest swing in baseball is rejuvinated at this point and Cincinnati Reds management is wasting it.

I have to disagree with the reason here. The injuries JR has sustained pretty much sidelined him, not the type and competitiveness of the teams he was on.
