Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I'm done over analyzing the Reds this season and second guessing JN or WK.

In a nutshell, the best player on the roster couldn't make it through the Devil Rays farm system, has been through rehab eight times and hasn't played organized baseball for four years. The Cubs thought so little of him they gave him to the Reds for $50,000.

That says a lot about the quality of the other 24 guys on this team. :shake:

You mean the same Stanton that WK saw fit to give a contract extension to? Like his buddies Coffey, Weathers and Rheal bad Cormier?

I like some of the things WK has done but his utter butchering of the pen and some of his contract extensions leave me absolutely perplexed. I am honestly not sure if he's the right guy and believe me I want him to be.

I know what you are saying but early in the year Stanton was our best reliever, but I don't know what his deal is know...I would honestly like to see him trade Weathers and Stanton if he can get anything out of them...

They aren't horrible, but they just shouldnt be your 1-2 punch in the pen...

Stanton's an old fart and Narron keeps running him out there everyday, he isn't able to make that many appearances any more. Majekski and Bray should both be ready soon. I think it will be interesting to see how they pan out. (On one hand the current situation validates the concept of "The Trade" too bad these guys haven't been able to deliver). McBeth has done well at L'Ville since coming over. I'd give him a shot soon. Burton has gotten hammered in his last 2 outings at AA. I wonder if he is hurt again or something? Maybe they can extend his rehab if so? I'd hate to see them lose him, but they can't bring him up pitching like that. Encouraging news for Everyday Eddie:

Reds closer-in-waiting Eddie Guardado mentioned a new date after his first session against hitters since last August: May 31.

That's the day he's eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list. That may not be a realistic target for his return from elbow surgery, but Monday's session had Guardado very optimistic.

"Forget Louisville," he said. "Just get me in a damn game."

Don't forget that he's not only the Reds' best position player, he's probably their best relief pitcher too.

I was at the park last night, and I was livid. On any team with even a mediocre bullpen, taking out Lohse was the right move. With the Reds though, he had no business coming out. I don't care about his pitch count, I don't care that Berkman (lefthanded) and Carlos Lee were coming up with runner in scoring position. Lohse flat out stood a better chance to get out of that inning than either of the two deadbeats they trotted out there that inning. At least if you're gonna make a move, you bring in Coutlangus and Salmon. Right now, those two are this team's true backend relievers.

It's sad when you're sitting in the stands and you can hear multiple people saying that by bringing in Stanton, Narron had pretty much given up on winning at that point.

At least we have some reinforcements coming...Not sure what is going on with Burton, but the staff obviously saw something coming out of spring training to keep him, so they are going to give him every chance they can...I think he must be battling that hammy problem that sent him down there and the reason he went to Chat. so he wouldnt have to travel...

Interesting stuff on bullpen usage from a reader of C. Trent's blog... (Also posted on RedsZone)

LINK

Salmon is the only one in the pen averaging more than 1 inning per appearance and he only has 2. The Red's have 3 of the top 10 leaders in appearances. It's not like they have 6 guys name Scott Sullivan out there.

Exactly, why isn't he playing more. If the current pitchers aren't working out why not give this guy a chance. He sure as hell can't do any worse.

Whats really sick in all of this is the fact that we finally have a set, healthy, producing outfield. Griffeys hitting right now. Dunn is playing well- even in the field! Hamilton is a stud. I like the move to Freel at third for now. I don't know what EdE is doing right now but hopefully he'll start hitting like everyone else is. Alex Gonzalez...... only a career year in the making. sheesh

The offense we've been lamenting since January is starting to stroke the ball. Even when they make outs, they're still hitting vs. earlier in April most of them looked lost.

One fucking inning! Thats all the bullpen needs. Get into the ninth damn inning with a lead and keep it! Christ! The starters have to basically be saying "don't take me out unless we're behind" at this point. I tend to think the same way. I've never seen collective group of bullshit throwers going on in one bullpen before. Its awful. Where's Castellini's email address?:pissed:

Does anyone else, while watching Milton pitch, think man I could've been a major league hitter? For fuck's sake! Jackass.

Somebody take a picture of that stadium right now and send them to Bob Castelini. Its empty.

I gotta a fuckin' brilliant idea...

Lets not play our best freakin' player...

Even better is the fact that he hits Connie and Gonzo ahead of Dunn...

THat is just not smart managing...I don't care if theere is a lefty on the mound or not...Just stupid...

I am also trying to figure out who has had a better start...Milton this year or Dave Williams last year...:!

Why do I watch?

Plz tell me that Milton is going to get the axe after tonite...The Stros are just killing the ball...

He is lucky that Lee just missed that one and that some of the line drives are hit right at our guys...

I think every ball but maybe 2 has just been absolutely smoked...It is like he is just throwing batting practice...I have to believe there are guys in the minors that would be better...

The pride of professional sports is killing the Cincinnati Reds. The dumbasses making decisions are too proud to admit their mistakes and patting themselves on the back all of the time for one or two good decisions. Honestly only Billy Beane and George Steinbrenner have it right. Produce, or get the fuck outta here. Thats how it is at my job and probably most guys jobs, but not in Cincinnati.
