Reds' offense socks and rolls
Two HRs by Gonzalez, one by Griffey among team's 17 hits
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

ST. LOUIS - Maybe it was getting Ken Griffey Jr. back in the lineup. Maybe it was going on the road.
Whatever it was, the Reds' bats came alive Tuesday in a 10-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals before a crowd of 42,309 at Busch Stadium.
Alex Gonzalez went 4-for-5, hit a pair of home runs, scored four runs and drove in five. He equaled career highs for hits and RBI and set a career high for runs.

Griffey is back in the starting lineup
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

ST. LOUIS - Ken Griffey Jr. was in the lineup Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals after missing four starts with diverticulitis.
But the condition, with which Griffey was diagnosed six months ago, is likely to cause him to miss time again in the future.
"If somebody can't play, they can't play," Reds manager Jerry Narron said. "It's just how he feels."

Guardado is 'getting close'
Reds closer says he is recovering nicely from elbow surgery
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

ST. LOUIS - Reds closer-in-waiting Eddie Guardado is on the road trip.
Guardado, coming off elbow ligament surgery, probably won't be ready until sometime in June, but he was happy to lend moral support.
"I was going crazy," he said. "It's good to be with the team. When you're on the DL, you feel like an outcast."
Guardado continues to progress nicely.
He's scheduled to throw breaking balls on flat ground today. If that goes well, he'll throw breaking balls off the mound Thursday

HAH! I figured Gonzalez would break out this year with the bat. Playing in the Reds lineup just does that to some players. If Ross can find his stick then we're in business. Griffey with the Diverticulitis isnt as bad as it might seem from the outside. Its real uncomfortable and causes some pain but with meds it goes away. This might actually be a blessing in disguise for him. He will get a rest every once in a while and keep his muscles and joints from some wear and tear. We have Hamilton to plug in there so this may actually work to our favor as long as Narron doesn't fuck it up.

Dunner seems like he's pressing a little bit again. He seems like the type of player that gets down on himself when he's not carrying the team. I know he feels that his offense should carry us most of the time but the slumps occur and our offense is weak. I think AGon and Phillips hitting will help him relax a little more and he'll start hitting again soon.

Lets get some damn run support for Arroyo tonight and take this important series!!

Ladies and gentlemen, start writing his name on your All-Star ballots. Josh Hamilton is the real deal! $25K, the steal of the century.

This could be a bad thing though because any spot they put Hamilton in in the order, he hits. This just gives Narron more autistic license to mess up the lineup.

Junior is just missing right now also. If he starts to hit we're golden.

WOW. Arroyo is just mowing em down now. To grounders back to the pitcher and a strike out. Lets get some runs. Only maybe one more inning left before the bullpen. yikes.

I know its pretty much a given but when you stay away from guys like Bonds, Pujols, Ortiz, Derek Lee, good things happen. Arroyo and Harang have both pitched Pujols well thus far.
