Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I thought Saarloos was a groundball pitcher? Maybe his stats for the season so far bear this out, but every time I've seen him pitch, he's been giving up home runs and line drive extra base hits.

If you look at Sarloos' pitch chart against Pujols there, he was definitely challenging him. Up in the strike zone is a tremendous no-no. I almost think the rest of the team just says "to hell with it" after the bullpen blows a lead.

Lohse extension a possibility.

Do it now before he changes his mind.:!

I don't know that I wouldn't trade his ass right now before he remembers who he is and while he still has some value. I would be very leery of an extension for a pitcher with his track record after a few good starts.

Would I trade EE and HB for Arod? No.

Pitching is just too hard to come by and I still think EE will be a stud. Factor in ages and salary's and you just can't do it. No small market team can have that percentage of payroll tied up in 1 guy. Besides that adding Arod does not make this team a WS contender imo. He can't pitch relief.

Everytime the pen implodes I cringe at what WK might do to fix it this year.

I'm already over the W's and L's. This team just isn't built to get over .500 and that where they are hovering. The only thing thats going to piss me off again this year is when they don't make any moves during the season because they don't want to be seen as throwing in the towel when we are mathmatically still in it.

Fuck that. Start trading right goddamn now if it will help us be a legit team in '08 or '09. No one is untouchable.

I'd offer Arroyo, Lohse, Cormier, and Milton right now to the Yankees for Phillip Hughes and a PTBNL and see what they say. Laugh but that package could win them the AL east right now given the offense they have. The Yankees are built to win now, we can wait on a rookie and it gives us another pitching stud the same age as HB.

If that went down it would end this season so you might as well go shop Freel, Hatteberg, Conine and Dunn while you are at it. Don't give them away Wayne but let it be known they are availible and see what we can get in the way of more near major league ready guys to go with HB, Votto, Bruce and theoretically Hughes.

You pull that off and THEN I'd have some legit hope for this fucked up franchise as soon as '08/'09.

Come on now Jax we ain't that bad...:)

I agree about the NO to that ARod deal, and I would be all for bringing in Hughes if we were able to...

Harang, Bailey, and Hughes would be an awesome top 3 pitchers, but it is never going to happen...

I understand where you guys are coming from but I want to win now.

I'm sick of the Reds organization "holding out" on prospects that never seem to get there. What happens if Bailey doesn't pan out? Everyone is going to say "he's a cant miss", "he's got awesome stuff" but what if he never makes it mentally? Look at his game last night where he took the loss. Granted, two of his runs were unearned but he wasn't blowing batters away either. I guess I would rather have a guy whose producing now and making it happen at the big league level than hope a guy in the minors is going to achieve his potential. With our organization, unfortunately, it just never happens. Why couldn't we be the team who is growing em on the farm and uses the young guys for players that are hitting their primes? Oh, yeah it has to do with scouting and the draft, where traditionally we havent done so well.

Its possible the guys are going to turn it around and the young "talent" we have in AAA is going to blossom soon. Its possible. I'm just tired of watching shit baseball and praying it'll be over soon.:(

I also want to win now, but we have been saying that for how many years now and we havent even cracked .500...

I am not for a free for all sell everyone unless we are getting can't miss prospects in return...

What I am for is getting pieces for the puzzle to next year and beyond as we have the makings with Harang, Arroyo, Bailey, to go along with guys like Lohse, Belisle, Livingston, Dumurait, Cueto, and a couple other guys and then we have some young arms in the bullpen.

Now we have a great CF in Hamilton, we will have a great RF in Bruce in a year or 2 and we have Dunn. Then throw in Votto at first, Phillips at 2nd, EE at 3rd and keep Gonzo until a guy like Vailaika is ready...

The only position where we need to find someone, if Ross keeps hitting like he is, is the guy behind the dish...

As for Bailey struggling, he has been working on his pitches, and not just blowing guys away with his fast ball. He is only giving up 5 hits/9 innings, which is a great stat...

I seen where Dumatrait is pitching lights out right now. What are the chances of getting him a call up soon? We need some kind of infusion right now to wake people up. Votto isn't helping his case right now. Bailey will be up here before long. Maybe its just time for Wayne to make a move. Its doesnt really have to be that significant, just an eye opener for the dead beats taking up roster spots. It does make everything seem all better when I think about Hamilton though. So far that guys been a dream come true. Quick question now about Hamilton. Being a Rule 5 player are the Reds allowed to sign him to a long term contract right now if they want to, or do they have to wait until after this season?

Prospects don't pan out/get hurt all the time, thats why I have been saying for years they need a well executed firesale and completely restock our ML system. A few great prospects is nice but you need depth for the inevitible attrition.

Treading water with filler and hoping the draft restock's your ML system isn't a plan to me and thats obviously what the new regime has in mind.

WK biggest weakness to me seems to be his reliance on getting lucky with reclaimation projects, repeat career years and prospects not only making it to the MLB team but being big contributors. If he were an investment guy he'd have all his customers buying lottery tickets.
