Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Yeah I know, but if it means getting both Freel and Hamilton, so you keep Freel in the lineup for your leadoff spot and his speed and you can get Hamilton in the lineup for his bad, you gotta do it...

I'm all for it, but I would be highly shocked to see it happen. Anyways, let me preface this by saying that Griffey has been my favorite player since his rookie year. Hell, my cat's name is Griffey Junior. But if Hamilton proves to be as good as he looks, I think they need to seriously look at trading Griff. If they could replace him with a young right handed bat, that would make a stellar lineup.

I am in Jax's camp...trade the vets once they show any ounce of production...Guys like Weathers, Cormier, Griffey, Milton(Cut), Conine, Hatte(When Votto is ready)...

We have some good young talent right now and I am all for getting them the time as we will be competeing hopefully thru the end of this year and then we will be over .500 for sure after that...

Hopefully they get rid of Narron and bring in a good manager...

We'll see what happens the next time Dunn or Griffey turn a double into a single admiring their "shot." I just thought it was a strange play to make an example of.

Muck I do agree with you on this point. They even had a big discussion about it today on Baseball Tonight. Krucker brought up the same thing and showed Griff doing it a week ago. He agreed with Narron benching EE but thought Griff should have had the same treatment which is true.

Josh Hamilton is likely to be in the starting lineup when the Reds play the Chicago Cubs today at Wrigley Field.

"There's a good chance he'll be in there somewhere," Reds manager Jerry Narron said of the outfielder. "It might be at catcher."

Narron was kidding about that

... or not. Translation: "Hey Ross, get your head out of your ass and get us some knocks. Javy may be too slow to put in the lineup every day, but just 'cause LaRue's gone don't think you're off the hook!"

Also from that article ...

"We've got to get him on the field with what he's done," Narron said. "It's not easy playing four outfielders. But we'll work it out."

I said before, if we're going to trot out a slow-pitch softball pitcher every fifth start, we might as well give him a slow-pitch softball defense and play Freel as a shallow rover. :wink2:

Eh, he sucked the last half of the season last year, too. Was batting .313 (41-133, 13HR, 33 RBI, 9 doubles) on August 2 and dropped to .255 by the end of the year by batting .190 over that stretch (22-116, 8 HR, 19 RBI, 6 doubles).

His SLG (.059) matches his BA this season and his OBP (.053) is LOWER than his BA! (1-17, 0 HR, 0 doubles, 2 RBI, 7 K's) :sick1:

Is it too late to get LaRue back?

What do you guys think about playing Dunn at first?

I think Dunn doesn't like it but it's the only way I see getting Hamilton in everyday. We've tried it before and I like giving EE that big traget.
I Think Dunn stays in RF and we're going to have to trade someone to get the line-up and the defense that we all want, be it Griffey to the AL or Freel to someone who needs speed.

I assume you mean Dunn in LF...I love Hamilton in RF b/c of his arm and with him and Freel in the outfield, Freel can shade towards Left to help out Dunn as Hamilton and him can cover most of the RCF gap...

As for Ross, I just really hope that he breaks out of his slump...Gotta stay positive...

If you're referring to the pitcher I think you are, you might want to make Freel a DEEP rover.

Well, Hamilton worked Zambrano for a 7-pitch walk in the 1st, getting all the way to 3rd where EE grounded into a fielders choice to end the inning.

That's 13 plate appearances, 4 walks, 2 home runs, and a double.

Imagine what this kid will do when he finally shakes off the rust after not playing for four years! :p
