Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Too bad this team gets a day off tomorrow. Finally got the home record evened up at 33-33. Shearn paid his dues, 12 years in the minors, and looks serviceable. Turns 30 in 2 days. The double-header Tuesday at Pittsburgh features, surprisingly, 2 of the hottest teams in the NL. Talk to me Wednesday about where I think the Reds' chances are.....

The only reason the Reds aren't more than 11 games out (which they would be ore more in every other division in the MLB) is because of how hopelessly pathetic the NL Central is....

I agree. But until MLB takes away the NL Central winner's automatic berth in the playoffs, what's the difference? The Cardinals won the World Series last year after winning the Central with 83 wins. We are as close to winning the division as are the Yankees, Phillies, Braves, Rockies, and Dodgers. Watch Baseball Tonight and see if they think those teams still have a shot....

And if you ever want a consistent winner, winning THIS YEAR will end up having the front office attempt another quick fix (like last year) in an attempt to get to the playoffs next year as well.

And all those teams you listed have ONE critical thing, along with many minor things that the Reds do not. I bet you can name it for everyone.

In summation, winning the division this year will doom you Reds fans to another decade of mediocrity.

I'd like to see it though,

You ain't never lied my friend! Greenies for you.

I'll keep cautiously optimistic unless they sweep the next series and gain a game or two.

Once again I state pay the man. Adam Dunn for all of his flaws and inept periods, is as good as we're going to get. We won't pay 110 million dollars for a prima donna, and don't have to. Pay the man his money and lets get on with building up the pitching staff so we can win some games.

Any other division and they are hopelessly buried. The mediocrity that is the NL Central never ceases to amaze. The last few years, I've said wait until Labor Day before I form my opinion as to whether or not the Reds have a shot at the division. I made my judgement on Memorial Day this year and I'll be damned if they prove me wrong. Lots of games left with the Cubs, Cards, and Brewers. No 3, 4, 5 starter and yet I can't totally write them off. Unbelievable. I guess that we should resign ourselves to the fact that Pete Mack is going to be the manager come next year. Honestly, they could do worse and unless the LaRussa/Duncan package is ready to jump ship, they probably would (do worse).

Agreed. All players have slumps and shortcomings. Dunn is not what is wrong or has been wrong with this team. The rest of the team has been so bad Dunns shortcomings have been magnified and he's become the whipping boy for the local media.

Build a decent team around him and all of a sudden people might start to realize 40 HR's, 100 RBI and 100 Runs a year ain't to shabby.
