Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

If form holds, we should be looking at a W tonight.

Belisle is 3-0 in 3 starts against PIT this season, pitching a combined 21 innings with a 2.14 ERA, and allowing just 18 hits (1 HR) and 2 walks.

Against everybody else, he's 4-8, pitching 121 innings with a 5.95 ERA, and allowing 157 hits (21 HR) and 32 walks.

Now that I have noted that, he won't make it out of the second inning. :smash:

Reds leading the Pirates 3-2 bottom 7th. While I am watching the LSU - Mississippi State game, I see they are still playing baseball these days :wink2:.

Somewhere, the Texas Rangers just scored on Baltimore again.

EDIT: Pittsburgh scored twice as I was typing that....

Yeah, Pete Mack has turned into Narron the past few days with his bullpen blowing up. It had to happen sooner or later... regression toward the mean, ya know. Just funny to see Tracy and Mack both managing like its the playoffs considering the seasons these teams have had. It will be good to see how the team responds to this, if they don't just pack it in (like they did down the stretch last year), I'll gain a little more respect for Pete.

Edit: Almost time to change my avatar for football season.

Reds' rally gets Dunn off the hook

Friday, August 31, 2007 3:36 AM
By Alan Robinson

PITTSBURGH -- The Cincinnati Reds won a game they probably should have lost because second baseman Brandon Phillips made a play nobody on either team thought he could make. Most of all, Phillips himself.
Josh Phelps was thrown out at the plate to end the game on Phillips' remarkable throw from right field, and the Reds overcame Adam Dunn's base-running mistake that cost them two runs to rally and beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 last night.

Dispute overshadows Reds loss
Phillips says Pujols dissed him at second base
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

ST. LOUIS - Today's Reds-St. Louis Cardinals game could be interesting if Brandon Phillips and Albert Pujols meet around second base.
Phillips failed to complete a double play in Saturday's game when it was still a game. The Reds ended up losing 11-3 to the Cardinals before a crowd of 42,356 at Busch Stadium.
But Phillips was still steaming about the play afterward. He thought Albert Pujols interfered on the throw by not sliding and stepping toward the infield.

The Mets' Pedro Martinez, left, won in his return from shoulder surgery.

CINCINNATI -- When the topic turned to talent reserves, the New York Mets had the last word with the Reds about which franchise lives on the right side of baseball's railroad tracks.

Here's a hint. The uptown team doesn't have any red uniforms hanging in its spacious walk-in closet. The Mets made the point emphatically yesterday afternoon in Great American Ball Park with a 10-4 victory that included the 2007 pitching debut of Pedro Martinez.

Completely imploded this weekend. Had to figure they'd come back to reality at some point. We'd have to sweep Milwaukee and Chicago to have a remote chance at this point, even then St. Louis would probably win it instead. Oh well, its football season now so lets focus on that. The good news is that Joey Votto finally gets the call and we'll be able to see what he can do in the bigs.

Reds drop fifth straight

Norris Hopper of the Reds dives safely into home as Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca prepares to field the ball.

CINCINNATI -- Ten days ago, one of those Earth to Alpha Centauri lottery long shots still existed that the Reds somehow could reach the postseason.
Oh sure, everything from countdown to launch to landing had to go perfectly for Cincinnati to rise from 6 ? games out to the top of the National League Central. Meanwhile, anyone familiar with the team's crash-and-burn tendencies this year recognized the need to double the distance and odds.
That brings us to another dose of reality last night in Great American Ball Park. The New York Mets spotted Reds a two-run lead before demolishing their pitching staff and running off with an 11-7 victory.

Well it took Votto all of 2 at bats to announce his presence. He made an out on his first major league at bat on Tuesday night pinch hitting. In his first start Wednesday afternoon, in his first at bat he homers. He ends up 3-3 today with a homer 2 runs 2 RBI's. Pretty good debut against the Mets and John Maine.

The young pieces are there. Just get them some pitching help.

Votto has monster debut
First baseman goes 3-for-3, belts prodigious homer
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

The hardest part for Joey Votto was suppressing a smile.
He knew when he made contact with a John Maine pitch in the second inning Wednesday that he hit it hard and far. He knew it was a home run when center fielder Carlos Beltran gave a cursory look as it flew over his head. In an instant, Votto was the happiest man at Great American Ball Park - and well-versed enough in protocol that he knew not to show it.
"Don't smile, put your head down, run hard, touch home plate," he said, when asked what he was thinking as he ran the bases. "I was actually thinking from third to home about what they were going to do on the bench: Shake my hand, give me a high five or ignore me."

Went to the game today. Talk about some ugly shit. Had not even settled into my seat and the Brew Crew puts up back-to-back-to-back jacks of Dumatrait. I doubt we see him again. Everyday Eddie actually looked pretty decent. That's about the only positive thing I have to say. At least it's football season.

Encarnacion blasts his fourth home run off Cardinals' Reyes

The Cardinals' David Eckstein ducks to avoid a line-drive base hit by teammate Jim Edmonds in the first inning.

CINCINNATI -- The question concerning the elephant in the stat book drew a wide smile and a short laugh from Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion.
Did he know that he seems to own St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Anthony Reyes?
"Yeah," Encarnacion said. "I'm 4 for 6 with four home runs. I don't know, I just see the ball and hit it. When I was in the minor leagues, he was the nastiest pitcher that I ever faced. But here, I just try to see the ball and hit it."
