Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Griffey injured, Dunn hits his 40th bomb at Wrigley, and the Reds bullpen blows a close game that holds huge NL Central implications.

Yup. Feels like September.

So sad to see this bullpen wreck 58-games (and counting), or whatever that number is at now. Like Thom said a week or so ago, you don't even need to be greedy, screw getting a great bullpen, just get an average one and the Reds would have the best record in MLB with about 98 wins right now.

This offense is going to be scary-good next year with guys like Keppinger, Votto, and Hopper up for the full season.

God. I hate David Ross, though.

I hate what we pay for Ross but he is what he is. An all glove catcher who can hit 20 or so mistake pitches out a year is fine with me considering the overall lack of quality catchers in MLB. Sure I'd love a better one but Catcher is way down the list of our issues. What the sense of urgency was to extend him for more money after a hot start in '06 is completely the fuck beyond me.

I'm sure the offense will be good again next year, hell there hasn't been anything wrong with it since 2000. Wake me up when Special (in the fucking retard sense of the word special) K builds a bullpen and rounds out his rotation with more than 2 MLB caliber pitchers. Untill then I have moved beyond the trainwreck watching stage with this team, I will invest zero emotion into them untill they show me they are committed to winning.

I quit watching or even following the stats early in July and I don't miss that sorry fuck of a franchise one bit.

My beef with Ross is that he's always good for a K when the stakes are high in the late innings. Nobody is less clutch than him. Kills me to see him go up there with runners on the corners and one out in a tie game, and Grande and Cowboy spend the entire 5 minutes of the AB talking about the great GIDPs of Ross's career.

I did the same thing too. I had more important stuff to do this summer, like watching the grass grow and checking my dog's stool for worms. I've watched a few games in recent week to see the young guys though.

Or GITP, as was the case the evening of the spring game. Thanks for not rubbing it in, bkb. :smash:

That one required a truely special talent.:frown2:

This is why I stopped thinking about, watching or reading anything Reds related. Too much negative karma that could spill over into our Buckeyes, I just can't have it. :wink2:

Thank god for football season. If I didn't have OSU right now, I would've wasted the last three evenings watching those games and ended up (even more!) pissed off. :gobucks3::gobucks4:

Ross is a wrist injury away from being Chris Hoiles...

SAN FRANCISCO?Pinch-hitter Jason Ellison hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot against his former team, and Homer Bailey shut down the San Francisco Giants in the Cincinnati Reds' 4-2 victory last night.
Ellison hit the first pitch he saw from Dan Giese into the left-field seats for his second career pinch-hit homer and his first home run since June 18, 2006, against Seattle while with the Giants.

Great to see the future back up and throwing well. If we could only fire Krivsky and get Larussa in here by the end of the season, I might actually get back on the band wagon before the preseason starts next year. :!

I haven't tuned in much lately but it was nice to see Homer throwing well again. I could really give 2 shits who that manager is, I'll be back on the bandwagon if the magically find a way to sign/trade for 2 decent starting pitchers and a quality reliever. And even if they don't, I'll be watching come opening day and more days than not thereafter. I'm a Browns fan, the Reds are a mild cross to bear compared to rooting for that franchise (save this past Sunday).

Astros 8 Reds 5
Bailey's outing undone by errors

Wednesday, September 26, 2007 3:37 AM

CINCINNATI -- Injuries continued to change the look of the Reds yesterday with news that left fielder Adam Dunn and his aching right knee would join Ken Griffey Jr. and Josh Hamilton on the sideline for the final six games of the season.

What remained the same for the younger players was the need to leave a good impression with the front office heading toward spring training. Rookie Homer Bailey showed flashes of the form that made him the top pitching prospect in the organization during an 8-5 loss to the Houston Astros last night in Great American Ball Park.

Brandon Phillips hits his 30th home run of the season off Juan Gutierrez in the first inning.

CINCINNATI -- Growing up in Stone Mountain, Ga., Brandon Phillips looked north to find a baseball hero.
Even though he lived in Atlanta Braves country, Phillips chose to idolize a Cincinnati Reds shortstop with a rare combination of power and speed. He met Barry Larkin a few years ago and was thrilled to win the second base job with the Reds last season.
Last night, Phillips matched one of Larkin's accomplishments by becoming a 30-30 player in home runs and stolen bases during a 7-6 loss to the Houston Astros in Great American Ball Park.
