Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Adam Dunn : Bob Wickman :: Jim Tressel : Lloyd Carr :lift:

I see it now. Put that shit on my ACT and I woulda scratched 30.

If only the Reds played in the NL East, or better yet, why didn't the Cubbies trade for Wickman? Ah...still doesn't make me feel any better. Hell, JLB, it would appear that you were at that game tonight, even if you weren't. You've sorta set yourself up to be some sort of a crutch, and that can't be good for you, unless you plan on attending every home game next year. Greenies for you, my man.

I am all for keeping Dunn past the 7/31 deadline (like it's my choice), but only if we pick up his option. I don't mean to stroke any hard feelings that have already been hashed out (Mr. Jaxbuck), but I still insist that this team, as it is assembled at this point in time, has all kinds of potential. All we need is either a 27 run lead, Texas Ranger style, or some smiling god looking down on the city. I can't think of any other reason that this year's RedLegs would absolutely own the Atlanta Braves, who are chasing a playoff spot.

I can't believe I just typed that much B.S. about the Reds. It's obvious that 1) My home town is boring as fuck, and 2) Football season isn't quite here yet.....Argghhhh

The Reds' Brandon Phillips scores on a double by Scott Hatteberg in the second inning.

CINCINNATI - Interim Reds manager Pete Mackanin had one of those understandable take-back moments in the 12th inning last night in Great American Ball Park.
Cincinnati was locked in a 7-7 tie with Atlanta and Mackanin was so focused on Brandon Phillips after he broke from first base on a steal attempt that he momentarily forgot that Adam Dunn might swing the bat.

Weathers made it interesting with a leadoff walk followed by a seeing-eye single to right, but "this one belongs to the Reds!"

Choo-Choo! That train you hear coming is the Cincinnati Reds!

Disclaimer: I only type this to amuse myself. If it amuses you too, then even better. But don't confuse this with me thinking the division is within reach. Oh to be .500 right now....

David Weathers has some serious testicular fortitude, I'll give him that.

First game I watched in over a month and that lineup is what greets me, I thought for a minute they let Narron or Miley back.

Oh well, good to see a W but this little mini run is nothing but a dead cat bounce. Watch them repeat the "keep the interim manager because they played a little over .500 for him and get more old vets for the pennant race next year" trick.

Love to see Hamilton back and bashing. Jeff Keppinger is a monster at the plate, not real flashy but you cant ask for better production from a player. The center defense looks great with Phillips, Kepp, and Hamilton. Now if we only had a couple more pitchers on the mound........

You think Kepp has the range to play everyday SS? I say lets not get carried away with a hot 100 AB's or so and count on guys like Kepp and Hopper to give us a legit bench for the first time in a long time come '08..

We can still move Phillips to SS and let Keppinger play 2nd. Doesnt matter to me but the guy has to see the field the way he's playing. The guy is 3 for 4 again today and brings his avg to .389. Thats ridiculous numbers for anybody.

Stanton and Sarlooser are trying to lose that game for Belisle today, whom actually pitched well. I hate those assholes. Everytime I click on the link and see Stanton's smiling face I want to bash my monitor!

Fuck off Mike Stanton. Ah, had to get that off my chest.

The 8th inning! The 8th inning! What is is about the GD 8th inning?

Best record in the NL, 28-19, since Mackanin's first game July 3. This can be a good thing, or a bad thing. I keep watching the standings, and 7.5 games back is impressive with the way the Reds have played this year. I know the division is terrible. With 30+ games to play, I can see an interesting finish. However, if the brain-trust thinks the current team is built to win the division next year, that makes it a bad thing.

Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, left, gives Dave Concepcion a hug during pregame ceremonies when the team retired the former shortstop's No. 13.

CINCINNATI - The past and present of the Reds brushed shoulders last night in Great American Ball Park, and the heightened emotions of the evening appeared to bring out the best in both.
Before the game with the Florida Marlins, the Reds honored former shortstop Dave Concepcion by retiring his No. 13. Concepcion, the defensive linchpin of the Big Red Machine, was joined on the field by former manager Sparky Anderson and teammates Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Ken Griffey Sr. and George Foster.

Great night for Davey. He was my 2nd fav BRM player behind Bench.

BTW, notice how Dunn hit one of those meaningless 3 run HR's in the 7th inning when it supposedly didn't "count" because we already had a big lead?

[public sevice announcement]
If you find yourself agreeing with the voice of the Reds on ideas like the non-counting RBI's and rally killing HR's please realize back in time you would have been agreeing with one of the last guys on Earth who thought it was still flat.

Look at the data thats availible and think for yourself

Thank You [/psa]

Jeff Brantley just said on FSN that Dunn has driven in a run in 21 of the Reds' last 22 games (including today) and is 4th in the NL in 2-out RBIs.

Not bad for somebody who's "not a run producer".

7.5 back heading into today. I'm catching a mild case of Reds Fever. :)
