Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Reds are lucky to miss Lilly this series, but haven't had much success against Hill, either. I'm figuring the Cubs will win 5-1 tonight.

I think you guys have trouble against lefties in general, don't you? If you didn't have Harang going tomorrow, I'd be tempted to give that one to us with lefty Sean Marshall on the mound...

BTW... How hurt is Ross? Will he be back for this series?

If the Reds win tomorrow, I'd guess it would be 2-1 or something along those lines. If Harang's off, I just don't see them winning against a (from the stats at least) pretty good lefty.

I'm really not sure. Haven't read or heard anything about it since it happened.

Ross is day-to-day. I'm sure he is available for tonight's game. He dislocated the tip of his pinky on his throwing hand. He doesn't really use it to hit or throw, so a little spit and tape and he should be good to go.

The way this team has been playing lately, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Reds sweep the Cubs... or get swept. The Cubbies will probably take it 2 games to 1, but we shall see. OSUBucks22, you are correct, the Reds haven't been good at hitting lefties for years.

I don't know, I'm just feeling that the Reds will take this series. I think all the games will be close though. How bout a Vbet on how many games the Reds will win this series?

Nah... no Vbet... I don't bet on any of my teams (in any way shape or form)... Superstitious that way...

We're a good road team this year... I believe we are 3 above at home and on the road after the loss last night... We usually play well at Cincy later in the year... Seems we only have tons of trouble playing there early... You guys are playing better, but remember, Milwaukee is 20-29 on the road this year...

Anyone going to any of the games? I'm taking my dad and son down on Sunday to watch Zambrano...

Stupid MOTHER@#$%&*!!!!!! Man this crap is so old. Big play by Freel to not be trailing going into bottom 9. Weathers you suck!

I don't know but Bronson Arroyo needs to see a witch doctor or something. Somebody's cursed him and its getting serious. He pitches 7.2 tonight and 123 pitches. He's leading 4-2 and the two he gave up are un-earned. Excellent night. In the top 9 Weathers puts the ball on a tee and Arroyo gets another No Decision. Weathers needs to give Bronson his game check!

Hoppers on leading off in the bottom of 9 so maybe we can salvage this one.

Holy crap, what a game!

Just got back from the park. Sat in the second row right behind the middle of the Reds dugout. Awesome seats, of course.

The Reds are now 5-2 when I attend this year, and 10-3 when I attend over the last two seasons. They should at least get me a full season ticket package, if not consider me for manager for next season.

Freel was awesome - I've been tough on him lately, and a lot of others say that his effort does not make up for what he lacks in natural abilities. I don't necessarily disagree with that, but this team would be bad this year with or without him - but with him, they are much more watchable.

In fact, this team is much more watchable than it was earlier in the season. They're winning a few more games, but their shortcomings remain and are still visible. I'm not sure exactly what's changed, but even if their luck turns south again after tonight, they still seem a little bit easier to root for than they were six weeks ago.

Encarnacion was awesome - that's why you let guys like him play through his struggles. That home run was one of the most impressive I've ever seen in person. It went OVER THE TOP of the LF foul pole, and it wasn't even close. WOW!

Arroyo was great too. He had some really tough luck with the errors and then the blown save. He pitched well and deserved a better result.

Weathers - I won't curse him. He's not a closer, and so it's not reasonable to get upset that he's not doing that well in that role. At best, he's really a middle guy or a set-up man. If the Reds had a real closer, they would probably be a better team this year and probably have a better bullpen - just by having everybody slotted into roles closer to what they're cut out for.

You're 100% right Jib. I was a little hard on Weathers, mostly because I feel awful for Bronson. That guys arm has to be ready to fall off!

BTW I'd vote for you as manager if I get to be the assistant!!

Also, go to more games so we can win!!!

I listened to it. Marty was so excited I don't think he even said "this one belongs to the Reds!' I hope it see a replay of Freel throwing out Jones in the ninth. Sounded like a hell of a play.. Lou even liked it.... Reds link
"The guy in center field made a heck of a play, but I didn't expect our runner to be thrown out," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "Give this guy credit in center field. He made a bare-handed play and made a real accurate throw."

Reds 5 Cubs 4
Reds let lead slip away, pull out victory in ninth

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CINCINNATI -- The Reds answered another challenge from a National League Central contender last night by pulling out a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in rain-soaked Great American Ball Park.

Edwin Encarnacion singled home Norris Hopper in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the winning run to set up a celebration by the Reds and frustrate the large numbers of Chicago fans in the crowd of 36,635.
"I'm extremely happy about the performance of the team tonight," interim Reds manager Pete Mackanin said. "We've been down so long it's nice to get excited once in a while."
The Cubs nearly spoiled the party by rallying for two runs in the ninth inning against Reds closer David Weathers, who couldn't protect the 4-2 lead handed to him by starter Bronson Arroyo.

The OFFICIAL move...

Cantu, OF Sean Cumberland (AA) and future considerations, for Calvin Medlock and Brian Shackelford.

Not sure on cash.

My .02:

Overall, a big whoopdee fucking doo.

I'm not enamored with Cantu's OBP or lack of defensive ability but its not like we gave up a lot.

This better not be all.
