Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Bestbuck36;889437; said:
I don't know, I'm just feeling that the Reds will take this series. I think all the games will be close though. How bout a Vbet on how many games the Reds will win this series?

Looks like I had the ultimate results right, just switched Friday's and Saturday's results...
Had a blast at the game yesterday with my son and dad... I've been there 4 times for games now and every time I think about how much more enjoyable it is to view a game there vs. Riverfront...
I think I'm going back down for the last series of the year in if the Cubs haven't clinched anything and are still in the race...

Reds trade Lohse to Phillies
Cincinnati gets minor leaguer for veteran righty

By Jon Heyman, SI.com

The Phillies bolstered their rotation by acquiring right-hander Kyle Lohse from the Reds for a minor-league pitcher, sources have told SI.com.

Lohse, 6-12 with a 4.58 ERA, was considered one of the better starting pitchers available in a very weak starting-pitching market.

AA lefty Matt Maloney

Slop throwing lefty with control issues. Best case scenario he develops the pinpoint control needed to overcome his lack of stuff and is a decent back of the rotation pitcher in a couple of years, maybe more.

Whatever, we got rid of Lohse for a prospect with a pulse and can hopefully replace his mlb average production next year for significantly less money than he will command in the FA market.

Overall I can live with it.

I still think you have to do better than that. If they wanted him, they'd have given more.!

That's the approach I'm taking. I was hoping Saltalamacchia was going to end up in Cincinnati, one way or another, but Krivsky didn't call me for my opinion :tongue2:

That was my initial reaction but then I thought about what I'd give up for a 2 month rental of Kyle Lohse and "not very fucking much" is the phrase I kept coming back to. I don't like WK as our GM one bit but I can't really hold this one against him. It wasn't horrific which by WK standards is a good thing I guess.

This trade is just a big "meah", it may look good in a few years but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I still say that a pitching coach with some attitude will turn Kyle Lohse into a 13-15 game winner. We haven't had that here since.... hell have we ever had that here? Basically we traded the same pitcher for a left handed version. Unless we find a guy who can get the best out of these players it doesn't matter what moves they make. It feels like Wayne was making this move just to say he "tried something." Thats the bullshit way out of it in my opinion and always will be. If you're not aggressive when your organization needs you to be, you're a fucking liability. Thats the word I use for Wayne Krivsky at this point. Someone needs to move him out before he dismantles any hope we have for the future.

Overall, the Kyle Lohse trade basically was no trade in my opinion. We saved a couple of bucks thats about it. The Cantu trade has me scratching my head wondering why. Who really gives a shit about another utility player when there are so many holes to fill?

I'm fine with the Cantu trade. Worst-case scenario, he never gets straightened out and toils in the minors. Best case, he figures out what he was doing in 2005 and returns to that form that brought 40 doubles, 28 homers, and 117 RBI. Low-risk move. Even if he does anything worthwhile, the Reds haven't lost much trying. Reminds me a bit of the Phillips trade.

EDIT - 19 walks in 598 at-bats in 2005! Take a pitch, Jorge!

Lohse failed in a pitcher's heaven up in Minny.

In the next 3 years he either won't be in the league or he'll be a 12th pitcher on a team somewhere.

Think of someone like Kirk Saarlos.

Lohse's maddening glimpses of potential will keep him in the league a lot longer than that barring injury.

When that psycho is on he's as good as anybody, he's still realativly young and even when the bad Mr Lohse shows up his overall production (the good with the bad over a season) is roughly MLB average.

I'm not saying Lohse is good, I'm saying MLB pitching is so fucked up that Lohse is middle of the pack with glimpses of greatness that keep him marketable. It was the 2 month rental factor and Boras as his agent that hurt Lohse's trade value as much as anything.
