Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

My guesses for departures.

Bye bye Adam Dunn. If he ends up in Milwaukee though I'm going to be pissed. DO NOT TRADE DUNN TO AN INTERCONFERENCE RIVAL!!!!!! San Diego needs a slugger and they've got some excellent pitching prospects in their system.

See ya Kyle Lohse. I think he's going to the American league somewhere, maybe even Boston but more likely out west.

I'm praying its adios to Stanton, Saarloser, Weathers and Conine. I don't mind Weathers or Conine as players or people just not a piece for the Reds.

My surprise and it would be unpopular. Edwin Encarnacion. Keppinger has played very very well since he's been up and I don't think Reds brass is infatuated with EdE like most of the BPers and Red Zoners are. If they do this it better be a damn good trade.

They seem just goddamn dumb enough to sell EE at his lowest value and replace him with Kepp based on a small number of AB's.Big fucking mistake if they do it.

Kepp's value lies in what a big upgrade he is for the bench over Juan-hands of gold-feet of lead-bat of a small child-Castro. Kepp's another Freel if you play him everyday.

Lohse, Stanton, Valentin, Freel, Hatte, Conine and Stormy all need to go.

Keep Dunn and EE.

Don't know why I keep commenting on this subject like it will do a fuck bit of good. WK's got less than 10 days and he's going to butcher this.

:slappy:

Saarloos needs to be cut ASAP. Worthless POS. I thought he might be passable as a long-relief guy. WRONG! Send him packing.

If I had to guess, I'd say the only guys that get traded are Dunn and Hatteberg. Nobody really wants Conine or Stanton, the front office is still in love with Freel, and they still over-value Weathers and Valentin by a good bit.

Face the wall, grab the railing, and bite this strip of belt, because we're about to take it in the ass.

What's the point of cutting Saarloos? It's not like he's gonna cost the Reds the pennant or anything, and they need somebody to serve as cannon fodder when the starters go out and drop a deuce on the field and get yanked after 2-1/3. If it wasn't gonna be Santos, it may as well be Saarloos for the rest of this season. His value to this team lies not in his abilities, but in the fact that he can be used in situations when his abilities don't matter anymore at that point in the game. The Reds need somebody to fill this role, and Saarloos should be more than happy to get big league meal money for another two months.

To appease me.

If they would stop sending him out in the 8th inning of a close game, I'd probably overlook his presence. The last 8 batters he has faced have reached base. He (albeit with some assistance from his sucky pen-mates) turned a 2-run game into a 5-run game on Saturday and turned a 3-run game into an 8-run game on Sunday, all while not retiring a single batter (of 8 he faced) in either 8th inning. At this point, I'd rather see a young guy given a shot to cut his teeth this season rather than next.

This Yovani Gallardo guy has been a dream come true for my fantasy squad. Same with 3B Ryan Braun. What a bad-ass baseball player that guy is. Rookie, too. Anyway, I was hoping they would take the week off, though, as fantasy will never compare with what's real, unless I am in deep sleep, on the 9th green, with 2 blondes, er, nevermind....

I plug Gallardo into my lineup tonight, hoping he gets rocked, as my fantasy luck has been scarce....nah. He shuts them down for his 6.2 innings, as my real life Reds take one on the chin. I can't win for losing.

Now Jib don't take this personally because you're just stating your opinion and I can respect that but this is the exact type of mindset the Reds organization has had for the past 10 years or so. It doesn't hold people accountable and thats bullshit! If you suck it up on more than one occasion, or a trend has started with you, take your ass to AAA or some other team because we don't want you in Cincinnati!! Losing has become habit and I for one cant stand it. I know for a fact that many other people are tired of it too. Belisle for instance, not a good starter. He's been in that role because we really have no one else. I bet he would be one hell of a long reliever though. The Reds have made so many dumbass moves in the last decade we've only got one finger in the dam and three holes to plug. Thats the best analogy I can come up with. They haven't found anyones niche and keep rot gut-piece of shit has been never was wannabe baseball players way too long! Give em a shot and if they dont pan out ship em out or change it up somehow. There are far too many good players to be this far below .500 and thats not just my opinion its a fact. If you can remove the worst of our lineup and the bottom of the bullpen the Cincinnati Reds are a pennant contender. How sick is that really?

I heard it best on the radio this morning when some sports talk guys were talking about the way the New England Patriots have built a dynasty. They haven't spent so much money on the high end players that they cant fill out a team, they've spent some. The money they've spent well has been the change of field position/role player type guys whom they can interlock into situations to make them succeed as an organization for many years. If one of those guys leaves via free agency, which has killed professional sports, they can find another guy of the same mold that will fit the team profile and won't break the bank. Continuity at those positions is what keeps them in it every single year. Bledsoe is done - in comes Brady. Curtis Martin leaves- in comes Dillon and a committee. Vinatieri leaves and everyone thinks their world will collapse but in comes a rookie with a name too hard to spell under the influence (:wink2:) and they don't miss a beat. I guess what I'm getting at is pretty much what everyone already knows. The front office must embrace a different philosophy in Cincinnati to win. They cant shell out millions and millions to the highest paid players. What they must do is develop a philosophy and plug in players that will do the job but not destroy the foundation if they leave. How do they begin this? First off I'd deep six everyone who will be gone next year and bring up the young guys who you are looking at to fill those roles. If they cant do it you've got a lot more work to do. If they will work then you start patching the depth chart with replacements to that when they go you just plug a different guy in. I honestly thing they've got a good start on the middle infield and starting pitching. They need to find the appropriate power hitters and bullpen to build anything worthwhile. Wayne or Bob if you are reading this, call me I have some ideas that couldn't hurt.

Need some help

Sorry guys I haven't been on in a few months. I've missed posting here, but have been dealing with some serioius cancer issues and haven't had the time nor energy.

However, I am very excited to make my first trip to the GAB this weekend. After living overseas so many years, I finnaly get to see the new stadium.

I am meeting a group of guys from around the globe and need to know the best sports bars in the vicinity of the ballpark. We are staying on 6th street at the Terrace Hotel. I don't want to clutter the page, so if you could PM me with suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you all,
O1B

Like BB said, I hope everything is on the up and up. It's just a horrible, horrible disease. Good luck bro.

Also, I've been to GABP a total of 3 times, so I have no help for you either. :(

I normally park in the underground garage at the Chiquita Center when I go to the games. when I walk to the ballpark from there, there's a place on the corner of 3rd & Sycamore called the In Between that has a beer garden and a pretty strong Reds crowd. I've never stopped in there before, but I can't imagine there being a better place to have a beer or three before the game for those who are so inclined.

Which game(s) are you going to, and where are your seats? Hope you have a good time.
