Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Superb! Had an errand to run...heard Phillips' RBI single as I pulled into the parking lot at my destination. Heard the game-ending strikeout as I pulled back into the lot at the office.

Heh. I probably would have been home for the end of the game if I hadn't insisted on following the first 14 innings from work.

Here's to sweeps!

Awesome win today. I hate the freaking Braves!!

There is no reason for Stanton to be on this roster for one more second. Coutlangus has been excellent and Gosling (sp?) today showed that lefties have basically no chance of hitting him, completely giving him a role from the bullpen. If we would find a real closer the bullpen wouldn't actually look that bad, that is if its managed correctly.

Brandon Phillips is a star. Plain and simple. Sign him to the 5 year deal now and get it over with. His bat has been steady if not improving. He can run the bases and his glove is nothing short of fantastic! I actually like the combo of him and Perez out there. Perez also showed he can hit a little. If Hamilton can recover from his injury the middle defense could be set for a long time.

I'm really going to enjoy this sweep and as long as we don't have to see Willis in Florida, we could win the next series as well. Optimism..... woohoo!!!

I agree with you Bestbuck that Phillips has been a joy to watch these past few weeks. Going into the Seattle series, it appeared to me that he had fallen in love with his HR swing and was teeing off on every pitch. I had some strong reservations about him. I don't know, it looks like a light has come on for him or something. He is doing a much better job of hitting the ball where it is pitched and using the whole field. Growth is what you want to see out of your young players. I'm not even going to get into my view on the future of this team until we get past July 31. Given some of the rumors floating around these days, a lot could change. My fear is that they trade starting pitching and don't bring any back in return. I can't think of the last team that slugged their way to a championship, but I can remember a whole bunch of them that pitched their way.

Pedro Lopez of the Reds is tagged out by Braves catcher Brian McCann in the fifth inning.

ATLANTA -- Brandon Phillips was happy when he thought he was getting a day off, and ready when the Cincinnati Reds needed him the most.
Phillips' two-run single off rookie Jose Ascanio in the 15th inning gave the Reds a 5-4 victory over the Braves yesterday and their first three-game sweep in Atlanta since 1990.
"There's never a day off in the National League," said Phillips, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth before taking his usual spot at second base. "I didn't even take any batting practice. I've learned my lesson."

Oh how badly I wish we fired Dipshit about a month earlier. We're just in so much of a hole.

Fixed it :wink2:

The team is playing much better since Petey took over, no 2 ways about it. I don't know if it's due to the clubhouse atmosphere or what, but they sure have been much more fun to watch. I didn't get to see tonight's game, but my buddy in Florida texted me after we went down 5-3, saying "same old shit", and I told him to just keep watching. Hell, I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day! You are right, though, the firing came a little too late to save the season, but I like the momentum we seem to be riding right now. I knew this wasn't the worst team in the bigs. Screw draft positioning, this isn't the NBA or NFL. We can get this ship righted one way or another.

Also, how many pitchers look at Freel in that spot, and fear a 3-run HR?

Yeah, unfortunately Milwaukee is just going to win too many more games this season to even try and catch them, if the Cubs don't pass them. We could make some headway though if we say swept the Marlins here and then swept the Brewers too.......ok just kidding.:tongue2:
