Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

When I bought tickets for tomorrow's game a couple months back, I had no idea it would be the beginning of a new regime. I simply did it for a Bonds record-breaking HR ball. I got one and not the other, but I'm still pretty OK with that.

Get on the horn to Joe Girardi.

With a consistent lineup and shorter leash on the staff we may actually climb out of the cellar by the end of the year. You don't have to have the #1 pick in the draft to end up with a stud, it depends on who's doing the picking. I think, as several others here do, that Cory Luebke is going to be a great pro pitcher and he went as a 4th pick after the supplemental 1st rounders. Do we have someone who can consistently find talent? I'm not sure we do. The interim manager for the rest of the year and whomever comes in afterwards has got to protect Bailey first and foremost. They cannot let his head get in the way of his arm nor get him overworked. He got shelled in the last outing and I'd like to see him be able to bounce back with 3 runs or less. Hopefully this new guy will be able to protect his assets better.

I'll be at the game too. I'm thinking about wearing a "FIRE MACKANIN" shirt just for shits and giggles.

The head talent guy was the same guy that brought in Bailey and Bruce so I don't have a problem with the scouts...

The draft is too hard to project at this point anyways...

With that said, this is the main reason why Bailey should not of been brought up so soon...I would not mind seeing him go back down to Louisville and get a couple starts in down there, and then when we either trade Lohse, or find somewhere for him to go we put Bailey in his spot and bring up either Livingston or Dumatrait...Both who have been putting up some good very good outings lately...I believe Livingston's last 2 starts were shutouts...One 9 innings and the other tonite of 7 innings...

Well, let's face it. This season was already toast.

The Reds have emulated the Indians as portrayed in Major League for longer than this season, they just nailed the act this time around. All one can hope is that this truly is the nadir, the tipping point or nexus, the moment you look back upon and say - "yes, on one day late in June of 2007 the fortunes of the Reds finally took a turn for the better, and look at where we are now."

Not to mention, Homer needs a little more work before the crowd goes "Oooh and Aaah." I love the Reds, but I hope they give Bailey a chance....

Not sure by what you mean by giving him a chance...I think they are giving him a chance now, but you don't want to ruin a young kids confidence, especially on a wasted season...

You either tell him that he needs to thorw his secondary pitches and get hit around a couple times and shake it off, or have him do that at Louisville a couple times, where they arent going to knock him around so much...

It is obvious that his secondary stuff needs work, one way or the other...

BTW be on the lookout for Johnny Cueto to maybe follow the same path that Homer has followed and he could be up by mid next year...

He is mowing guys down after his promotion to AA...He had 11K's in his last outing...

Bailey at AAA is exactly what I mean by giving him a chance...He came up, beat the Indians, rah rah, but it's time that we re-assess where he is, and he's certainly not Jake Peavy. No matter how well Homer could possibly do this year for the Reds, I'd rather have his confidence level sky-high for next year, which is what seems to be this teams problem right now/all year. I would let him dominate AAA, and we'll try this next year.

Yep I agree...

I still have not idea with the way they are slinging Livingston around...I think that he has thrown 2 very good games when he has been up here, and he has thrown well in AAA...

It seems to be written in the stars.... this is not our year :(

The good news, if there is such a thing, is that we knew it early on. I think it was JaxBuck (at least I'm gonna give him credit for it...:wink2:) that said that the worst possible scenario for the Reds was to pretend to be a contender, in so many words. At least we have hit rock bottom (of the standings, anyway) and have nowhere to go but up. We will not be one of those middling idiot teams that trades for players when they need to trade away players.

Maybe I need to temper my enthusiasm because the trade deadline is not even close yet, and I haven't seen Castellini do anything. But the optimist in me says it can't get worse. Or can it? :paranoid:

Anybody see the press conference? WK almost starting crying over letting Narron go. Not to take a line from somewhere else but "This isn't show-friends, its show-business!" Do your fucking job and leave the drama for yo mamma.

Hal McCoy put them on the spot. It was great. Wayne at least started to take on some responsibility about not getting the guys in here that can get it done. In the end they came to a head with "We just needed a new voice." A new voice to me sounds like whomever is coaching is doing exactly what they are told to do. The problem is that the people telling them what to do are clueless.

Yes that means you Krivsky and Castellini!!!!!

"If we don't get this thing turned around soon, I'm liable to fire myself soon." -Bob Castellini

One can only hope.:slappy:

Last night I heard a caller on the radio relay something he had heard from one of the coaches. He said that the reason Narron got canned is that he became vocal in a team meeting about needing a vet in the bullpen. WK basically told him if he couldn't deal with the current roster that he could just leave. I found this interesting for a couple of reasons. First, was it maybe Narron last year who was the driving force behind "The Trade." And now with Narron demanding "The Trade 2.0" Krivsky is saying, we can't afford to do that and it is going to take more than a couple of retread bullpen arms to make this team better. It should also be noted that Narron made comments to Chris Welsh on Sunday that it wasn't fair to him or the team to keep running the young guys out there in the 8th.

I hope this was the scenario. It makes sense and gives me some hope that WK knows what the hell he is doing. I'd certainly would rather have Narron fired than "The Trade 2.0."

On vacation and have had limitd time to surf the net.

-obviously a team is better without numbnuts than with him. Will this make the Reds a winner? No.

-The new guy matters not but at least it seems they are honestly going to use an interim manager and look for a real one in the offseason. If not they'd have just bumped a coach up imo.

-JN was a problem, WK is THE problem(Cast won't fire himself unfortunately). Wake me up when they fire his sorry ass. Untill then we'll have a lot of managers with sub .500 records.
