Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Narron couldnt coach a high school team for of major league prospects to a winning season, b/c he would find a way to play the bat boy and put him in the 2 hole...:!

Jerry Narron said:
Backoff, cbf40. That batboy is one scrappy SOB. He provides a heckuva lot of veteran leadership and will give you professional at-bats everytime at the plate. He's a hard-nosed player, a hard-worker, and he's just a consummate professional. He brings so much more value than just his statistics. This team could use about 6 more just like him.

The worst part is that it just ain't that far from the truth. :slappy: :smash: :pissed:

He had started hitting before he went down, it was just a matter of time and he had worked the kinks out b4 being sent down...They were just looking for a scapegoat and while it is a good thing that he is hitting and playing better, it makes them look all smart, but really he was turning the corner before being sent down, so all they did was not have his hot bat in the lineup instead it was sitting in Louisville tearing the shit out of the ball, and the same thing with Hamilton as he could of been in Colarado for that last game...

Yeah I will say once again that if Lohse can continue to throw like he is someone is going to over pay for him...You have to strike when the iron is hot as well...

I just hope that he is mentally ready, and if he faces adversity he just stays with his stuff...No reason to try to be the savior at this point in the season...

As for batting Castro #2, WTF...This guy wouldnt even make 90% of rosters in baseball and yet he is hitting second...Why b/c he is hitting a buck seventy...Yeah that is right our #7 hitter is hitting .170...:!

Spot on with every point.

Coffey is the odd man out of the BP. I'd have cut Santos, but I guess they think they need a "long man." I think not cutting bait on Burton shows they think he's part of the future. I'd like to see him get regular work if he's going to stick. His command issues won't get any better throwing every 6-8 days.

Stop. Homertime!

assuming there wasn't a time out called on the balk play and I personally thought it was, that was indeed a balk....

A right hander would start his motion by stepping back with his left foot. A pitcher has to step off with the opposite foot.

Perfect scenario today for Homer.

He stayed solid. He proved he could get outs at this level. His velocity was ok. He only struck out 3 which is a good thing. If he comes in today and strikes out 12 then his mental game could go to shit. He proved today he still needs to work on his control. I'd say it was just nerves but he's walked quite a few in AAA. He hit a guy which is good, its out of the way now. :wink2:

Overall, he pitched well but he's not Superman. Thats great both for Homer and the organization. He knows theres still a lot of work to do but he gets some confidence today by leaving his first Major League game with a lead after 5 innings.

Is that a light at the end of the tunnel, or a train?

It could be either, it depends on the Reds organization and the fans of the team.

If everyone starts to look at this guy as the savior, that will probably put too much pressure on the kid.

Similar to what happened to Jimmy Haynes in Baltimore when he came up and pitched very well as a September callup, the fans in Baltimore all saw him, along with Mike Mussina, as the tandem to take the Orioles back to the playoffs.

They got to the playoffs as the Wild Card in 1996, but he got rocked. The next year he was in Oakland.

Homer has a completely different personality, but pressure can do funny things to people.

Whew!

Is Ken Griffey Jr. on fire or what?! That guys unbelievable when he's healthy. What ever happened to Adam Dunn? Is he still on this team??????

I have completely forgotten about Ryan Freel also. I think Hopper will only get better with more playing time, bonehead errors aside he's done a good job so far. Hamilton's back and JR's healthy. Now to replace some jackass relievers in the pen and we're setting up nicely for next season. Damn shame its only June and thats what I'm looking forward to already.

JR has some trade value and has told the team he's open to it...do it.

Dunn is just quietly OPSing .884 but Marty and Thom think Hopper should be the starting LFer.

Freel isn't coming back anytime soon. Lots of post concussion problems still.

Nice night for Homer but as has been mentioned, he's not the second coming yet. Lets see that curve thrown for strikes and that changeup in any count and he will be deadly.

Did I mention that team Brenaman both stated they honestly think Norris Hopper should be playing ahead of Dunn the other night and the only reason Dunn plays is his contract? One of the more amazingly dumbass things I've heard in a long, long time.

That OPS is pretty good considering the rate for Ks (projected to 200+ before tonight) he's accumulating....

Something will have to give at some point....
