Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I hope they leave Bailey down in Louisville until Narron is gone. He could fuck up a wet dream, which is pretty much what most Reds fans consider Bailey's future. If he pulls that up and down stuff with Bailey or moving him around in the rotation, it could wreck him. I wouldn't be surprised if Livingston doesnt end up screwed now by the yo-yo act he's getting from the organization. What does Marty have to say about the Livingston situation? I know a lot of people don't like Marty because he's grown bitter and is highly opinionated but I can't blame him one bit. He might be the best sportscaster of all time and he's been stuck watching the Reds suck royally every year. I respect his baseball opinion over a majority of people that chime in on the "ins and outs" so to speak.

I think the BL move was due to them not needing the 5th starter again for a while and adding an arm to the pen in the meantime.

I've been adamant that I don't want to see HB up here this year and nothing has changed. My 2 reasons:

1)If he doesn't have that 3rd pitch working at a MLB level then he's going to get hit hard, if he gets hit hard he's going to be at risk to injure himself by trying to overthrow the fastball.

2) Even if he tears it up then Narron will leave him in for 150 pitches so he doesn't have to use that god awful pen WK built. We don't get the pub like the Cubbies do or JN would be known as just as much a pitcher killer as Dusty Baker. No one wants to hear it but they need to start thinking about trading Harang and Arroyo now before their arms fall off. Arroyo is really showing signs of regressing to his career norms as well.

The season is lost, save the kids, go for the overall #1 pick in '08 and have a firesale.

Rockies 4, Reds 1
Can't find the right cure for lefties
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

DENVER - Colorado starter Jeff Francis is a left-hander and he came in on a roll.
Not a good combination for the Reds.
Francis and the Rockies beat the Reds 4-1 at Coors Field Saturday night.
The Reds fell to 7-17 against left-handed starters. Francis has won four straight and he's gone seven innings or more and allowed two runs or fewer in six straight starts. His 2.23 ERA for the month of May was a Rockies record.

Bailey may make debut
Could start this week vs. Indians
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

DENVER - When the Reds optioned Bobby Livingston to Triple-A Louisville Saturday, they opened a spot for a starter this coming Saturday.
It looks as if it could very well be top prospect Homer Bailey.
"He's got a chance," Reds manager Jerry Narron said.
It won't be Livingston. He isn't eligible to come back for 10 days.
The choice besides Bailey, Narron said, is Phil Dumatrait or Victor Santos.
Bailey has clearly pitched better than Dumatrait.

Reds notebook
McBeth where he wants to be - in big leagues; Right-hander will be used in relief
BY JOHN FAY | [email protected]

DENVER - Marcus McBeth was happy to be back in the big leagues."This is the place I really want to be," McBeth said.
The circumstances are guaranteed to be better this time around.
McBeth was called up to the Reds May 15. But before he got in a game he went on the bereavement list after the sudden death of his grandfather, Arthur McBeth.
"The last time it was bittersweet," he said.

Another classic bullpen meltdown today. Lead 8-2 lost 10-9.

-WK is screwed now, Mejewski isn't hurt anynore so now everytime he takes the mound its going to remind people just how bad The Trade was.

-They are going to bring HB up this saturday more than likely. It just makes no sense but then again, its the Reds. React and hope for the best, no descernible plan whatsoever.

-How anyone can try as hard as WK has and still have a bullpen this god-awful defies description. He's thrown money and club assets at it and has done nothing but shoot himself in the foot everytime.

You just can't fuck something up to this level and not have people questioning your competence.

Yes the bullpen sucked today, but I am going to try and put a spin on this...

First he either should of let a bullpen guy start the 7th or after a little bloop hit he should of left Belisle in...It is stupid that he says you can go out there for this inning, but if a guy reaches base, even after you have retired the first two batter easily and the guy got a bloop hit you are coming out...

Then why after Cooter had already walked 2 straight do you give him the chance to walk the 3rd straight...That one run never should of scored, as Majewski came in and got his first out...I am not saying that it necessairly would of happened like that, but the guy should not of scored by being walked home, unless Majewski would of been the guy to walk him in...It was obvious to everyone that Cooter didnt have his stuff today.

Then in the 8th Majewski was getting dinked and dunked...It wasnt like he was getting smoked...He loaded the bases with a great bunt by Taveras and there was nothing we could do about that, it didnt matter who was on the mound...Then Weathers gave up the base clearing triple...I think it was ridiculous to bring in Weathers for 6 straight outs...I know that he has been our best reliever, but he is not a strikeout guys like a Salmon or Burton are...

Then I knew the game was over when Narron made the decision to bring Santos in...Still don't know why Santos has not been cut lose...I would rather them of left Livingston up and in the pen and then let him throw next saturday instead of bringing Bailey up who isnt ready at the moment...

I am not saying that Bailey can't come up here and give some good starts, but it is just my opinion that there are things that he needs to work on without feeling all the pressure of being the savior of the organization, considering that he is probably going to put 35,000 butts in the seat on his first start...

At this point I am much more intrested in the minors and the development of the young talent that we have...

Cueto went back to Sarasota and threw a gem today...6 Innings of scoreless ball and 10k's...

A lot of people compare him to Roy Oswalt and if he had the size of say a Homer Bailey he might be looked as being better than Homer, but the thing is that he is small in stature and that leads people to worry about his durability but I think the start in Louisville might of shown him that he can pitch at that level, so i gave him some confidence and he should be up in Chatanooga by midseason...

I am excited to see McBeth, I wouldnt of minded Narron sticking him in there in the 8th inning today when Weathers came in...I would love to see him be able to step up and be our closer in the future...

Also Coffey has thrown 6 times in Louisville and hasnt given up a run yet...

Maybe the trip down will do him good like it did EE, but EE was startin' to heat up right b4 he left anyways...He hasnt made an error since his recall tho, and has made some great plays...

I still think we need to dump Narron and then move on from there...Dump Santos, Stanton and go from there...There are building blocks in place here, we just need to put them together to build a winner here...Our starting pitching looks to be the best it has been in 10 years and that IMO is the most important part along with some guys at the end of the pen to winning games...

We have 2 solid RH bats in the lineup with phillips and EE, then with Hamilton we have 3 very young bats to build around, I think we will also be able to throw Votto into this equation(He could very easily be a 25 homer and 40 doubles guy and he doesnt K a lot and walks a lot)...

Also If we could trade one of Griffey or Dunn we can put Hopper in CF and play Hamilton in one of the corner spots...That takes care of leadoff spot right there...

I still think the weak spots in the lineup are catcher and SS, even tho Gonzo does hit well at times...I would love to get a SS with some speed that could man the 2 hole in the lineup, handle the bat well, bunt hit and run, and then play great D...I understand they are a dime a dozen, but we should be able to pull something off if we put Dunn, Griffey, Lohse, Hatte on the trading block...

I was going to post about the same thing yesterday, but was to aggravated after watching that debacle. I could see it coming a mile away when he let Belisle hit for himself after a rough 6th. I'm thinking, here Narron goes with that stupid leave the pitcher in the face a batter or two shit again... But what was worse is that he didn't have his bullpen guys warming up to start the 7th. Somebody (McBeth, I think) was warming up in the 6th, but Cooter had to scramble to get ready and the same with Majewski and Weathers. I agree that I knew it was over when Santos came in. I also agree that Majewski got dinked. He as throwing hard but his stuff was a little flat (as can happen in Denver). He seemed unlucky and Weather just didn't look like he was ready to come into a bases loaded jam.

I just don't get why Narron does that move. And he does it all the time where he lets a pitcher who is nearing his pitch limit hit for himself. Sure Belisle had thrown about 90 and could maybe get 1 inning, but I'd rather get another run or two on the board and let the relievers take it over. The BP had not been overworked this week and an off day today. I actually muttered to myself that if he let Belisle start the 7th they would "lose this fucking game." I hate to be wrong because things looked so good up to that point.

I'm not blaming Narron for that loss. As Thom said during the broadcast, "I don't care if you are playing in Denver, Maine, or on the Moon, if you can not hold a 8-2 lead after 6 2/3, then some thing is really, really wrong." I was just relieved to see I wasn't the only nutjob Reds fan who saw the game that way. Thanks CB40 for being there!

OK, so, can they finally get over the myth that Santos is worth a damn? Can they get rid of Stanton for anything? Will Lohse/Dunn/Hatte land the Reds some key pieces for the future? (I think with the Rocket going down, the Yanks would salivate over Lohse). Will they finally fire Narron? Can Homer live up to the hype? Will the fans tar & feather Krivsky if Majewski has another bad outing? Will McBeth make his debut before getting sent down again?

So many questions and the only answers we have are that this team STINKS!

P.S. Yesterday's debacle was actually my fault. After not checking my fantasy team in a few days, I logged in and benched Garret Atkins. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Hamilton and Coffee called up today....Wise and SALMON down.

Thats right...Salmon. Not Santos, not Stanton, not Majewski...Salmon.

But they will bring HB up early for some unknown reason(tickets) and tell us you have to take your lumps with the kids.

All in all just another few examples of the fact this FO is clueless.

I said the last time that they sent Salmon down that I was ok with it, as I think that he needs some work on secondary pitches, and he isnt going to get but a couple appearances a week here not during pressure situations b/c Narron is scared to use him and Burton in pressure situations... You know Narron is probably salivating at the chance to run Coffey out there everyday...

I just want to see McBeth throw, he has been up here for his second time now and he has yet to see any time on the mound...

Hopefully Hamilton continues to kill the ball like he was doing in AAA and Coffey continues to throw the ball like he was in AAA...

At this point it is just a matter of making sure guys like Salmon, Burton, McBeth, Coffey, Cooter get innings and prove that they can be cogs in the pen, no matter if they are getting them in AAA or the major league level...

That's what drives me nuts about how Narron manages this staff. I thought Salmon was doing fine in his few opportunities, but Narron seemed afraid to use him late in games after the Berkman HR that got him sent down the first time. I'd rather see him get consistent work. Maybe he gets to close in AAA with McBeth up. I wouldn't be a bit damned surprised to see McBeth shipped out for Homer without throwing a pitch in a game. Santos sucks big fat hairy balls and yet they "need" him because he's a "long man." When is the last time Burton pitched? I hope they can get Bray up before Narron ruins Cooter. Or just get rid of Narron before he does any more damage. I'm still in the minority camp that would send Boom Boom Hume packing as well.

Salmon was very good for most of his appearances but had a bad day yesterday and gets shipped out for it.

Shitty veterans get killed time after time and numbnuts just keeps running them out there. has mcBeth thrown a pitch in anger yet? Burton's a rule 5 guy and has to be up here, how often does he get used?

Bottom line on our putrid franchise once again:

The manager is clueless.

The GM keeps the manager around while at the same time turning in one of the biggest clusterfucks in baseball history with his attempts at fixing the pen.

The fucking owner thinks these two morons are keepers.

Lather, rinse and motherfucking repeat.
