F1 Grand Prix 2023 Season Schedule, Start Times, Locations and More

ebkcqfqdob5kw2koh4g0.jpg

The 2023 Formula One season is expected to belong to Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

Verstappen is the two-time reigning champion in the Drivers Championship, but 2023 marks the first time he is the clear favorite to land the title.

The Dutchman won his first title in 2021 in the last lap of the last race of the season over Lewis Hamilton. He entered 2022 with threats primarily from Ferrari and did not gain control until the middle of the season.

Ferrari and Mercedes will need to use all of their technical expertise to challenge the Austrian team, and their drivers must be almost perfect across 23 races to even compete with Verstappen.

Verstappen won 15 races in 2022, and he has the potential to be that dominant again in 2023 with a strong Red Bull car underneath him.

Charles Leclerc takes pole position for Ferrari in Vegas

Charles Leclerc will start from pole position at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after beating teammate Carlos Sainz under the neon lights of Formula One's newest street circuit.

Sainz is due to receive a ten-place penalty after a loose water valve cover on the Strip destroyed the underside of his car in Thursday's opening practice session and forced Ferrari to fit a new power unit, taking him over his quota for energy stores this year.

The pole position was Leclerc's fifth of the season, but on every other occasion he has failed to turn first place on the grid into victory. He will face tough competition from Red Bull's Max Verstappen who set the third fastest time, 0.378s off Leclerc, but will be promoted to second with Sainz's penalty.

After a chaotic opening day of practice on Thursday -- sparked by the Sainz incident that led to five hours of track repairs and a delayed second session - Friday's qualifying day was completed without a hitch.

Anybody planning on staying up tonight to watch the race?

Lewis Hamilton set for shock switch to Ferrari F1 - sources

Lewis Hamilton is close to completing a sensational switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025, multiple sources told ESPN.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion and the driver with the most F1 wins in history, signed what was believed to be a two-year contract extension with Mercedes last year, but it appears now as if the second year of that may well have been an option.

Mercedes and Ferrari both declined to comment to ESPN.

Although not confirmed officially, the deal is as good as done, sources told ESPN, with the move seeing Hamilton replace Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.

Ferrari, which has competed in every season of F1 and is often said to have the greatest pull, has not won a drivers title since Kimi Raikkonen did it in 2007.

Hamilton, tied with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher with seven titles, now has a chance to end the Ferrari drought and move clear as F1's most decorated champion in the process.

Were he to do so, he would become the first driver to win championships with three teams since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957.

Hamilton, 39, has been frequently linked with Ferrari, the sport's most successful team, throughout his career but looked set to finish his career with Mercedes.

Last season, before signing his Mercedes extension, Hamilton laughed off suggestions of a move to the Italian team, but it appears as though negotiations have picked up steam in the past few months.

Edit: Apparently it is now official.

Lewis Hamilton Leaving Mercedes For Ferrari In 2025 In Bombshell F1 Move

British Formula One star Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of the upcoming season and is set to join Ferrari in 2025, according to both teams, in what could be one of F1’s biggest moves in nearly a decade.

The Mercedes team confirmed Hamilton’s departure after the 2024 season in a statement Thursday, adding the star driver activated a release option in his contract.

Scuderia Ferrari followed up Mercedes’ statement in a tweet saying Hamilton will join them in 2025 on a multi-year contract.

Hamilton will team up with Monégasque driver Charles Leclerc, who recently signed an extension with the Italy-based team.

The move leaves Ferrari’s second driver, Carlos Sainz Jr., without a seat for 2025 as his deal with Ferrari is set to expire at the end of the 2024 season.

With a seat opening up at Mercedes, the move is also likely to trigger changes to other teams’ lineups.
