RB/WR Curtis Samuel (Buffalo Bills)

Samuel has some WHEELS. I heard in one of those interviews posted in the Fall Camp thread that he's around 197, while his Rivals profile listed him at 180. Pretty good size to go with those wheels.

Sort of reminds me of Reggie Bush. Reggie is about 1 inch taller, and obviously Reggie is stocked up pretty well now. But Reggie reported to USC at like 180, so the measurables seem in line.

Samuel will definitely get some action but they'll keep it simple for him...no need to get cute when already have so much talent at the skilled positions. The designation of a position does not mean much imo with guys like Dontre, Jalin, and Samuel.
This post got me thinking. Guys like Jalin and Curtis played some QB in HS. Mainly to run the option. I'd imagine we could run a pretty good wildcat set with Jalin at QB or a pretty mean redzone ground attack with some of those guys.

The skills guys truly are skilled. In more things than one.

It is a lot of players who need touches but it can be done and the first 2-3 games will determine that..If Oregon can do it why can't we.Curtis,Dontre, and Jalin will really make this offense go because no matter who we play they first defensive assignment will be to Stop Braxton and wit our hybrid players motioning and moving it's gonna be a problem

Ummm, take out our best offensive weapon to do a wildcat...NO! I only support the wildcat with more of a passing quarterback.

Like Tampa said, no way I want Braxton off the field for a wildcat. And I've stated before that Urban loves versatility, regardless of position, but especially on offense. His UF teams were set up very similar, and he made sure guys with talent and speed got the ball in space in mismatches, and that's what made that offense so dangerous. And will make ours just as, if not more dangerous.
@OSUbuckeye09 , I have a friend from college that's from Brooklyn and coaches peewee and has known Curtis (and Erasmus Hall)for a while. Curtis was the home run threat after the other RB they had would wear down offenses. Curtis wasn't the primary ball carrier, he shared the backfield and that's what made him dangerous. Staying fresh when the opposing defense was worn down. He could be used similarly at OSU but hell also be used in the passing game as well

The designation of a position does not mean much imo with guys like Dontre, Jalin, and Samuel. They may have a primary position but they're going to get the ball in a variety of ways. As for Dontre, I thought he had a great season fit a freshman at his size. Simply put, we could ride out Hyde and that's basically what we did. As for how Samuel could compare, I think his size (as mentioned, he's about 20 pounds of muscle bigger than Dontre) and experience in coming in early this spring could give him a bigger role. The only mitigating factor is how many other talented guys we have get the ball to...if gets the ball a lot, it means he is an absolute stud.
Points taken. If this team is as good as I'm beginning to think it is, I think that more and more guys will be given an active role as the season unfolds, a la the "super sophs" of 1968. Just a hunch. :urban2:

I don't want our best offensive weapon dinged up. Thus, I think our coaches will look for ways to limit the hits he takes while searching for other ways to score. I think running the read option with a former QB turned H-back wouldn't be all that far fetched.

I also don't want our best weapon dinged up, but I would rather see that with zero designed QB runs all year. I don't mind Brax scrambling when a play breaks down, because at that point the D line is spread out, the LBers have dropped more into coverage and he can get his yards without a lot of risk. Designed Brax runs last year put a lot of risk with very little percentage of working out. I hope to see Brax dishing the ball to Jalin, Curtis, Zeke, Wilson, etc. rather than running himself.

This is completely crazy to even think about, but Miller and Marshall lined up for an option, with another back on the field would be LETHAL. Jalin has some passing ability. I wouldn't be surprised to see some trick plays involving him.

While I like the idea, I can't see it happening. The read option has been one of our bread-and-butter plays for awhile and a go-to for how it forces the defense to respect Braxton's legs.
I'd like to see it, but I've noticed that Herman goes back to the same script in clutch situations... and designed runs are a big part of that (along with the screens). As dynamic as the offense has been, in certain situations it's been even more predictable than Tressel-ball (when he'd go the whole game being utterly predictable and suddenly throw deep on 4th and 1 or pull a Statue of Liberty out of nowhere -- Herman could use a little more guile and deception for those big plays in big games.)
I could go a whole season without seeing another QB draw on 3rd down. Or those damn tunnel screens for that matter.

Speaking of whose faster between Samuel and Wilson... have we had several pages dedicated to Samuel's running style yet?

Edit -- didn't we see the same stuff about Wilson passing in trick plays last year too?

Braxton is thought of as one of the best runners in CFB, regardless of position. I'm not arguing we completely stop his designed runs, because that would be idiotic. I'm saying that I'm hoping we pick our spots with him a little better. For example, I don't want to see him laying out against Indiana like his did last year. I want to see him doing that against TTUN.

Just tell him to run only if he is going to score a TD.

Honestly I'm also of the opinion that having someone like Marshall especially or Curtis take 2-5 snaps a game at QB to run the ball off either some reads or power looks would greatly benefit keeping Braxton healthy.

If i could have it my way Braxton wouldn't approach 800 yards rushing because Samuel, Zeke, Marshall, Dontre, and Rod combined for 3000 yards.
