Trey Sermon is the Ocho.
Sermon is doubling up his number from Oklahoma, where he wore No. 4, which Ohio State had already assigned to freshman wide receiver Julian Fleming.
The starting job is widely expected to be decided between Sermon and Teague, with sophomore Marcus Crowley, redshirt freshman Steele Chambers and incoming freshman Miyan Williams – who spent the offseason getting into the best shape of his life –filling out the unit room (and senior H-back Demario McCall also available to play running back if needed).

RB Trey Sermon
Ohio State looked thin at running back up until late March, when Oklahoma graduate transfer running back Trey Sermon entered the transfer portal and chose the Buckeyes. Sermon has plenty of experience, with more than 2,000 career rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns with the Sooners. Sermon wasn’t able to enroll early for the Buckeyes, so he missed out on the few spring practices the Buckeyes squeezed in before the shutdown. He’ll have training camp to build chemistry with Justin Fields and the offense. The could-be superstar needs camp to happen soon in order to solidify himself at the top of the depth chart and in a conversation among the league’s best tailbacks.

RB Trey Sermon
A comparison between an offensive guard and a running back might not make a lot of sense on paper. But when Ohio State is mentioning Trey Sermon in the same breath as Jonah Jackson, that’s high praise when it comes to the kind of impact performance a graduate transfer can make for the Buckeyes.
Jackson fit in seamlessly last season, becoming a Day One starter, a respected leader and an NFL Draft pick despite only being in the program for one year. Sermon has that same potential across the board, and the early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.
“Trey has been a great addition so far,” Day said. “He’s got a great way about him, he’s got a great work ethic and our guys have kind of embraced him. When you bring in a fifth-year senior like that or somebody who is a transfer in one of those settings, you have to find the right guy. Jonah Jackson was the right guy, and we think Trey Sermon is the same way.”

Staying another year if you are NFL draftable or think you are ..means more leaving early. They don’t even have a voice at the table ..the Presidents play Judge and Jury.

If the BigXII ends up playing, Mr. Sermon will most likely deservedly be quite pissed off. He would have wound up being the Sooners feature back while the B1G sits at home.

Coulda/Woulda/Shoulda.... I dont know in what scenario Mr. Sermon is able to predict that the B1G would cancel, the B12 would not and feature back would then decide to opt out.... thats an awful lot of gut feelings/predictions for even a grown adult to get it right. My guess is Trey is good with his choice but of course with hindsight being 20/20 he might have done things differently...but i’d wager very little chance he’s pissed

Yeah. He made a great decision with the facts presented to him. Even if he comes back with a newer OL, I think they'll be pretty good.

I guess I forgot he still has another year. I just think it would be human nature to second guess yourself in a situation like that. By all accounts he's happy with his decision, and I cerainly hope he is. In the end, I still don't think anyone is going to be playing this year.

TREY SERMON, RB
Sermon would probably be selected in the 2021 NFL draft even if he never plays a snap at Ohio State, so there’s a real chance Sermon will never play a snap for the Buckeyes after graduate transferring to OSU this offseason. If he feels like he needs to play a season for Ohio State to bolster his draft stock, a winter season could be enough to do that.
If Sermon wants to play the traditional fall season in Ohio Stadium that he came to Ohio State for, however, he’ll now at least have the option to do so by returning for a fifth-year senior season. That also means he has the opportunity to potentially two seasons for the Buckeyes when he initially had only the option to play one.
Whether Sermon should go pro now, play in the winter then enter the draft or stay for next fall and enter the 2022 draft could be a tough decision with no easy answer, but considering the trouble he had to go through to transfer to Columbus, it’s good that he’ll at least be able to make that choice.

RB Trey Sermon
The Ohio State offense is exactly what Trey Sermon wanted. The fit is perfect. The quarterback situation at Ohio State made it even more perfect. And if Sermon gets on the field this fall, he could become on of the top running backs in the 2021 NFL draft class. He already has 25 career touchdowns from his time at Oklahoma, and one year with the Buckeyes was only going to pad those stats. He’ll run behind one of the best offensive lines in the country and certainly be a top back in the Big Ten. If Trey Sermon gets a chance to play for the Buckeyes, he could be one of the first backs off the board in the spring.
