RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Archie's first

Only 2 running backs have won the Heisman in this millennium; both from Alabama. It is high time a running back won it again. It is way past time for a BUCKEYE running back to win it. Hell, it's been a quarter of a century since a BIG TEN running back won it.

It was 20 years between Archie II and Eddie. It has been 29 years since Eddie. This 50th anniversary would be a very good time for someone to break the longest Heisman drought for Ohio State (and Big Ten) running backs in the awards history.

Wow. A very strong reminder that we never know what some of our players are going through off the field, and why we don't bash players on here for performance. Not that I saw any of that on Tre here, but that was quite a struggle he was going through. Glad he found his faith and pulled through it stronger. I hope he has all the success in the world moving forward and stays healthy just for him alone.

Not that I have any experience with any of those, but I'd imagine that those are all things he will have to continue to fight for a long time - maybe forever.
One step at a time, Tre. One day at a time.

I only had sleep paralysis a couple of times and it's truly awful, I can't imagine having that be a constant problem. I've had the mental depression issues and understand the constant struggle there even when you think you've got it handled.

Miller (center from GA) was in the same boat and Ryan Day was the best mentor out there that actually cares about his player's health and well being. The whole "be tough" mantra just needs to be replaced for people actually struggling with mental health. Not aimed at you at all, just feel for the kid going through all of that. Tre has been tough and fought through battles we didn't even realize were there. Extremely proud of him to be open about it and be an advocate. It sounds cliché to say check in on your people when they are having issues, but seriously effing do it and hopefully Tre is a great example of someone that beat depression.

But on the on-field side, he's got a lot of help with Judkins now. I feel like that is going to free him up to just go play.

Easily one of my favorite Buckeyes on the team. Love his story about his struggles the last few years, and still returned for a season and a chance at the NC(wouldn't have blamed him at all to pursue an NFL career a year early). Let's hope he can put his immense talent with being able to stay healthy all season

There’s a certain “highly” rated RB recruit that could benefit from watching how someone ranked even higher has handled his business.

Trey is a class act who understands the real big picture

OHIO STATE RUNNING BACK TREVEYON HENDERSON HOSTS YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP

The joy exuded by TreVeyon Henderson was palpable.

On Friday the Ohio State running back hosted a youth football camp at Olentangy High School with the help of Buckeye tight end Gee Scott Jr.,
Olentangy football head coach Wade Bartholomew and The Walk Foundation COO Jacob Byrd.

“Just being able to interact with the kids and shine the Lord's light onto them, his love, his joy, his kindness toward them and just try to make as many interactions as I can with those kids, man,” Henderson said. “I'm just thankful that I was able to do so.”

Next Gen Camps and Centric Sports Group helped put the event together, which is the seventh total youth football camp that Henderson has helped instruct at during his time with the Buckeyes. Henderson had a major hand in organizing this one though, Byrd said.

It was imperative for the Virginia native that there be a faith component to the camp.

“He had expressed that he wanted this event to be more than just about football,” Byrd said. “He wanted it to be an excellent football camp and was involved in the process with the camp agenda with both myself and Coach Bartholomew, who is the camp director here. Even last night he was giving us feedback on the camp itinerary. But it was his idea to put the cross and John 3:16 on the back of the T-shirts and to have Bibles available.”

It was also Henderson’s idea to distribute “Walk by Faith” wristbands, a reference to the Bible verse he wears on his eye black on gamedays, 2 Corinthians 5:7. It reads, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

In addition to those items campers all got a photo with Henderson, autographs and prizes for winning individual competitions.

Henderson, Scott and Olentangy’s high school coaches ran players ages 6 through 18 through drills to teach agility, tackling, pass coverage, route running and a host of other skills. Afterward, the younger campers played speedball while there were 7-on-7 competitions for the older athletes, then each age group raced in either a 30 or 40-yard dash.

During all of it, Henderson participated with a huge smile.

“TreVeyon is a guy that has a huge heart, and what I’ve seen transpire in his life just having known him since his freshman year at Ohio State is, when he came to know the Lord a year ago, at that time he was in such a dark place in his life,” Byrd said. “But when he found Jesus, he felt so loved and he felt at peace and he found great strength and hope in the Lord. In communicating with him, he has shared that he wants to share that hope and share that love. ... So it’s impressive to see Trey pour into the lives of these young people.”
