Mike Weber on why he wore 'Imported from Detroit' shirt to Ohio State move-in: 'The pipeline is open'

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- That Mike Weber was riding in a Chevy convertible with Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott last Sunday when the Buckeyes moved into their team hotel for camp was interesting enough.

The running back of the future riding shotgun with the running back of the now.

Then they emerged from the parking garage across the street from the Hyatt Place Columbus, and the freshman Weber was wearing something that made him overshadow his Heisman-candidate teammate if only for a few seconds.

It was a gray t-shirt with "Imported from Detroit" printed across the chest in red letters. Very much a Michigan t-shirt in scarlet and gray. It was a message.

Cont'd ...
I loved that the shirt was scarlet and gray. Im sure Michigan fans loved that one.

In a round-about way, this brings up an interesting point. Near the end of his recruitment, one thing keeping Mike back from being fully committed to OSU was that he was worried he wouldn't be representing Detroit if he went to OSU instead of scUM. Drayton, whose wife is from that area, famously said something along the lines of "my wife would kill me if I didn't let you represent Detroit" at Ohio State. Now, ironically, he's representing Detroit more by being at Ohio State (and kicking some tail his first few days on the practice field against the reigning national champions) than he would have at scUM, as he would have just been another talented kid from Detroit there.

Mike represents Detroit VERY well... and love seeing him do it in S&G. And he very well might end up being the brightest star in that recruiting class we brought in last year. Love this kid's character.

DESPITE INJURY SETBACK, OHIO STATE RUNNING BACK MIKE WEBER THRIVING IN FALL CAMP

Mike Weber's a serious soul. Football, and more importantly, his impact at running back is life. He's his own person, a reason he isn't the always fond of getting compared to other great backs in Ohio State history.

"On the team, everybody calls me 'Baby 'Los,' Carlos Hyde," Weber said Sunday at Ohio State media day, before cracking a massive smile for the first time since beginning to speak with reporters a few minutes earlier. "I guess at running back that's my running style. Zeke is more elusive."

Ezekiel Elliott is who the Buckeyes leaned on during their historic three-game stretch to dominate Wisconsin, top Alabama and beat down Oregon in the postseason to eventually win the first-ever College Football Playoff. Elliott romped for 696 yards and eight touchdowns in those three games, becoming a preseason 2015 Heisman Trophy favorite.
