Cass Tech's Thomas Wilcher, Ohio State's Urban Meyer move past Mike Weber situation: 'He is the person I thought he was'

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For a while, Detroit Cass Tech coach Thomas Wilcher didn't know how he felt about Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

Because the day after Cass Tech running back Mike Weber signed with Ohio State in early February, Buckeyes running back coach Stan Drayton, the four-star running back's leading recruiter, left for the NFL's Chicago Bears.

In the immediate aftermath of Drayton's departure, Wilcher said publicly that Weber felt deceived. It was an uncomfortable situation for everyone on both sides.

But Wilcher told Northeast Ohio Media Group at the Ohio State-Michigan basketball game on Sunday that he's since talked to Meyer, gotten an explanation and that now things look entirely different.

Like the drive and motivation, but gotta beat out Dunn for that role first.
Looking forward to seeing that competition develop, and Weber's development in general.
Until the season starts I wouldn't have Dunn penciled in as a backup just yet. I see Weber definitely pushing for time, and I don't see that staff willing to "give" the backup role to Dunn yet, it'll be a battle to the end knowing how Meyer works

No doubt, every touch on offense has to be earned in practice, on special teams, and off the field. I think Dunn has a leg up on two of those. Partially just by virtue of being around longer. Weber will definitely get his chances if he shows in practice though.
I think this is the 1st Meyer season where the opening opponent hasn't been a pushover... so it'll be interesting to see how much is set in stone just for VTech, and then loosen it up a bit in the next 4 games?

Congrats also to Warren Ball, Webers big brother for camp. Cool to see older guys embrace the young pups that are gunning for their PT.

Meyer really is embracing and furthering something special about OSU. Tressel didn't do it exactly this way, but he did emphasize the player-team-family dynamic by having players take quizzes about other players. All this stuff was real big under Coach Earle Bruce, whom both Tressel and Meyer learned under.

I just watched the running back drills in the other thread and I have upgraded my opinion on Weber. I wasn't 100% sure he was going to be a super star, not that I am saying he will be a super star now either, but his feet are better than I thought they were previously. He looked pretty good.

Mike Weber on why he wore 'Imported from Detroit' shirt to Ohio State move-in: 'The pipeline is open'

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- That Mike Weber was riding in a Chevy convertible with Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott last Sunday when the Buckeyes moved into their team hotel for camp was interesting enough.

The running back of the future riding shotgun with the running back of the now.

Then they emerged from the parking garage across the street from the Hyatt Place Columbus, and the freshman Weber was wearing something that made him overshadow his Heisman-candidate teammate if only for a few seconds.

It was a gray t-shirt with "Imported from Detroit" printed across the chest in red letters. Very much a Michigan t-shirt in scarlet and gray. It was a message.
