RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

When a recruit has 4.4 speed and the strength, balance and ability to break tackles, as Maurice has, it does not matter how big he may be. The theory of a "big back" is not a valid one and lately the need for one seems to be on hyper drive this year in recruiting. Good ball carrying is based on a good offensive line and a runner with good balance, strength and vision and heart; not on his height. One only needs to look at Anthony Davis at Wisconsin to see that a team can have a good running game in the Big Ten (or anywhere). Look at Bush at USC. Heck Walter Payton was 5'10" and a little over 200 lbs. Barry Sanders was 5'8" and 200 lbs. Maurice Wells will do very very well at Ohio State. He will do even better when the offensive line of Boone, Bemoll, Cordle, Mitchum etc... etc ... matures and starts blowing open holes for him.
Try to keep it positive because any recruit of this caliber would be an asset to OSU and the fans will be blessed to see him in the Shoe wearing the Scarlet and Gray.

We don't want any Archie Griffin-sized players here, damnit. :)
Rugby I know you are joking --

However, I'd take any number of players of Archie Griffin's approx size

Especially if they have the big heart and the big desire that Archie has always shown.

Then I'd let 'em play in the backfield behind an O-line that can open holes larger than Courtney Love's and we would see just what a prototypical half-back can do running down hill and away from trouble.

But trust me on this one.
(ok, How to you say F*** You in Florida? (<!--EZCODE BOLD START-->Trust Me<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->))

He has been with us since the night before Thanksgiving. JT & everyone have been showing him a lot of love.
(<!--EZCODE ITALIC START-->I know, real recruits don't need to get love from staff, they just come<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->)

From everything he has told me, even with everything going on, he will be a Buckeye.</td></tr></tbody> </table>
