RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

On the John Thompson show earlier this afternoon, Brown stated that Milstein assured him that Clarett is in hte draft even if the NFL appeals. Apparently the judge has denied a request to stay her order pending an appeal. Brown also stated that since OSU will not start the paperwork for reinstatement until the spring, Clarett does not even know if or when he would obtain eligibility to return to OSU. Brown concluded by stating that Clarett does not have any options on the table for playing football other than going to the NFL at this point given the circumstances.

About the association with Demutti who was labled a "gambler" - John Thompson said he (Coach Thompson) was never accused of being a holy man even though he associated with many priests throughout his tenure at Georgetown. It was a very good discussion.

Another thing about ESPN that annoys me to death is that they go to Jim Brown of all people for information.
Jim Brown is just another example of MoC's bad judgement. How is this guy advising young kids when he has had a pattern of mistakes throughout his career. I cannot even stand to hear him talk.
Sorry about the rant. I think the "slave master" thing really pushed me over the edge with Brown.

I am the only one who feels that this is a really bad decision by MO? Is there really a team that is going to draft him? With all the baggage that he is bringing with him will they try to use a high pick on him, 1 or 2?
In My Opinion he should sit down with Geiger, Tressel, and the NCAA to find out what his status might be and what he needs to do in order to possibly stay eligible.

I agree that ESPN, like all other "news" organizations, have lowered themselves to sensationalism as a business practice. I agree that MoC probably did nothing wrong here. I also believe that Delimutti probably did nothing wrong. However, this is starting to remind me of one of those guys who spins all the plates on his body. He gets 2 or 3 going well but then he adds another, and then another, and another until at some point they all come crashing down.

It's getting really frustrating and hearing the words "gambling" and "tOSU" in the same sentence leaves me disgusted. I have always been a fence sitter on the MoC situation. I am pulled one way, then the other in how I feel about the whole thing. I believe in second chances. I've been given 2nd and even 3rd chances in my life and I am grateful for them, but at some point, these problems begin to affect other kids in the program negatively when they don't deserve it. I think at some point it's time to go seperate ways and let someone else deal with MoC. The others kids in the program deserve better.

Just an opinion that will probably change again, so don't be surprised if I contradict myself somewhere down the road. :)

Bye Bye Mo

We hardly knew you....

According to BSB and O-zone, the judge has denied the NFL's request for a stay. Mo's has declared and NCAA eligibility is done.

Thanks for the memories and good luck in the NFL

Good Luck to him if he goes but he really needs to think about this. The NCAA is giving him time and there is a big money difference between the 1st & 2nd rounds than the 3rd or lower. He is going to make a great pro but I don't think that GM's of the NFLPA is going to be real high on him. My 2cents, get an insurance policy for next year and then play that season and go on to bigger and better things.

Just got done talking with a co-worker who is also a Buckeye fan, and we've come to the opinion that the fact that Clarett himself hasn't declared yet looks good for his return to the team. It's been, what, a week since the court decision and he still hasn't declared. It could be that he's waiting to see the reaction of pro scouts (which so far hasn't been very overwhelming toward him) to see where he may fall in the draft. Still, the old saying, "No news is good news" rings true here.

I heard an interview on the James Brown sport talk show last week and Jim Brown told him, that his advice would be to go and play for Grambling and coach Doug Williams could take him under his wing and get him prepared for the pros in a year or two. I was really surprised by that because he was telling him to stay in school one more year and get experience but at another school other than Ohio State. Now i understand that Clarett has to put it in writing on his decision to enter the NFL draft for this spring. And that in my opinion will not be happening until he has a look-see, at what teams are interested in him. So there is still is a good chance he will be back in the unys with Ohio State. Ya just never know.

I find it hard to chime in on Maurice topics anymore. I wish him the best in whatever may come. But, more so, I wish the best for OSU and the Buckeyes. If he wants to come back, and JT and AG are OK with it, I'll be OK with it. The circus that has surrounded Maurice for almost the entire last year is/has been ... (I'm searching for the right word here) ... depressing. The enjoyment I get from Ohio State football was diminished by the constant focus on Maurice. The enjoyment I used to get from Bucknuts was diminished by the constant focus on Maurice (and other factors, but that's another topic). I'm tired of great kids and coaches being "overlooked" as fans and media rush to get any information on a young man who is not even on the team (technically Maurice may be ON the team, but suspended ... I don't know how that works).

I hope Mili is correct and Maurice does still decide to return and better himself. I am doubtful. I understand that Maurice must make the decisions that are best for him and his family. What one of us wouldn't do the same? And yet, Maurice continues to make poor decisions. Decisions that leave me scratching my head and wondering why. Granted, I am older and have learned from many mistakes. I cannot say that being in Maurice's cleets and at his age I wouldn't be making the same choices. One thing is for sure. I dread another football season such as this past one. Not being able to relish the great moments because we must constantly return to the "saga" is tiring, trying, annoying. Never being able to attain a point of closure is frustration, embarrasing, and builds resentment. I find this hard to say (because I have continually tried to be supportive of Maurice), but it might be a relief (to me) if he did go to the NFL. If he returns, I don't trust Maurice (or his advisors) to make the appropriate decisions. I will be continually waiting, waiting, waiting for the other shoe to drop ... the next episode to occur. I know that is a selfish reaction on my part, but I'm selfish when it comes to the Buckeyes. Thankfully, I do not have to make any of these decisions.

Finally, I am VERY proud of Jim Tressel, Andy Geiger, the coaches and staff for their handling of this issue. They have taken the "high road" in every instance that I can think of. They have not "bad mouthed" Maurice. They have not played the "he said, she said" game. They declined to get into a racial dispute with Maurice's "advisor". They handled Maurice's lawsuit (against the university) with aplomb. They kept Maurice on scholarship. They worked to keep OSU's reputation in tack. They gave Maurice a path back to the Buckeyes and left the door open ... now, will Maurice walk through it? That's the question. With the way Maurice has handled himself the past year, and the people he seeming has to advise him ... I am doubtful.
