RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

In my experience as an Ohio lawyer it is a very good sign indeed when the court actually sets a hearing in these matters (they are wholly discretionary and can be denied with the stroke of a pen or left to languish on a desk for seemingly forever). Additionally I had the opportunity to visit with MoC at TCI and understood him to be doing well and in good standing with everyone I came into contact with at the facility.

:osu:

Surprised he's even eligible to apply for judicial release. With a sentence in excess of five years, he wouldn't normally be able to apply for release for at least five years.

But you're right. Judges usually don't have inmates transferred for hearings on early release motions if they are going to deny it. I would expect the motion to be granted.

Clarett certainly behaved like a buffoon, but I don't think 8 years in prison was just punishment for what he did. I hope he is successful in securing his early release.

Body armor, AK-47, katana, handguns, the Goose, in the neighborhood a principal prosecution witness lived in, fled from police, spit at them and called them derogatory names, resisted arrest, all after an armed robbery that he was, at the time, being prosecuted for. I dunno, man. If we're talking about just punishment, I don't know that what he got was unjust.

Of course it's gonna sound bad when you list them all at once like that.

I really don't want this guy putting his face in the news while Ohio State is chasing a NC this year. Clearly, his request suggests that he still doesn't understand that it all isn't about him. I hope that he is not released.

It's his life, it should be about him.

As long as he keeps it about HIM..and I don't give a crap what he does..just don't bring OSU into the picture...I have a feeling that won't be the case, however. I'm sure his name will surface prior to the Miami game....the media will do a "where are they now" feature on him when they rehash the NC game with the Canes. I'm sure he will make himself available for anybody that wants a sound bite or interview the week of the Miami game.

I guess the only thing to speculate about is whether the interference call or MC's troubled career will be the top story for ESPiN during the week of the game. Look for MC to be on "Outside the Lines"...Things have been "quiet" on the OSU front with the off the field stuff and I hate to see this dredged up again by ESPiN.
