RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

Boom is great, and Berry is great. We're lucky to have both. But, comparing the performance in an opener at two completely different times during the game is a bit ridiculous. At least wait until mid season to throw insults at Booms play. 6 carries for 44 yards doesn't warrant a negative reaction. New year, healthier players, and different performances. I'm eager to see Boom perform and eager to see Berry grow.

Which game, pray tell, haven't I been watching? Herron hasn't had a 100 yard game in his entire 3-year career at OSU. He's had flashes of brilliance, but he has yet to 'break out' in a game.

I'm sorry, but if you've had dozens of 15+ carry games and never had one game with 100+ yards, no matter the caliber of defense you faced, there may be another back to come along to take your place.

So, if a back doesn't gain 100 yards in 15 carries (6.7 ypc), he sucks? As previously pointed out, he red-shirted in 2007, took over as primary backup to Wells when Saine was hurt in 2008 (with starts when Wells was also hurt), and split time with Saine in 2009. While he has yet to have a 100-yard game, he had 96 yards in 19 carries (5.0 ypc) at Michigan last year and 97 yards against Iowa the previous game...two solid performances in two huge games. By the way, he has a grand total of seven 15-carry games, not "dozens".

Boom has steadily improved and answered those who thought he had a short "ceiling".
Berry? He looked good when the other guys had given up. But he'll get his chance. His ceiling looks very high.
As of right now I like Hall better than Berry. His ceiling looks high, but perhaps not as high as Berry's?
I think the coaches have the right pecking order.

So trust the coaches right?

I look for Jaamal Berry to get some major touches in the next few weeks against some inferior opponents. Kid has that something special about him.

I don't think so.

I think JT is going to try to get Saine untracked. He's the one back with any experience who can break just about anything. They are going to need a HUGE day from one of the RBs before this season is out. Boom is solid and steady but Saine could be the home run hitter.

Berry and Hall will get touches too, but it's still Saine's job to lose at this point....I think....

Trust the coaches?

Thing is, I knew Saine was gonna have tough sledding against Miami's defense. They are a team where you need to pound for what you get, run tough and low, and just know that they are going to miss tackles. This was a game tailor made for Boom to show what he's capable of. Saine was a bit tentative at the line, couldn't quite get north-south. It is good to have two distinct running styles both in their 4th year.

Boom's tenacity and attitude for the game is infectious

two games down, Berry has done some special things already in each. Lighting it up in the 4th quarter against Marshall was very impressive, but having two monster kick returns against his childhood favorite team was more important for the team and on a bigger stage (one of which should've been a TD, too bad #20 didn't get out of the way in time). I think if this guy isn't the starting RB in 2011 then he'll be getting half the carries as Boom's backup.

Thing with Saine is he is our home run hitter but I don't think he's going to be our most consistent back. Saine will go -1, 3, 0,2, and then 80 yards to the house.

Boom is much more consistent with what we get play in and play out. Boom may not go 80, but he'll get you a couple 10's, and a few hard fought 3 and 4 yard gains.

I too think Jaamal will get some work in the next few weeks because if we can have him or Hall as extra weapons to account for then that'll make Saine/Herron all the more effective.
