RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

Saine looked powerful and determined in the spring game. It was taking 3 or 4 guys to bring him down....the potential is there for him to have a great year. He is a big kid and this is the big 10, he will see some serious playing time. I think you need him and Boom in the backfield quite a bit. They can both catch the ball and tote the rock. I think Berry is much in the same mold, great burst, good hands and can go the distance at any time. I like Berry as the 3rd true tailback and Martin in short yardage. The way Saine looked in the spring game he will be a good option in short yardage. Go Bucks

Do u really think that Martin is gonna get that much PT at RB instead of FB? Idk why he would, I'm sure more people are intrigued at what Berry can do.

Tressel stated that Martin has been move to RB. I haven't seen a depth chart outside of Boom and Saine, so I don't know where Martin, Berry, or Hall fall after them. People who have seen him play say that Martin has good feet and can run with short term power and speed. Sounds like Martin is a short yard back, unlike the other 3 or 4 (NOTE: Boom has proved to be more than effective getting to or past the LOS in a pile, but he's not 220 lbs either.) Martin seems like a jackhammer.

I'll bite on the previous post, I think we see plenty of Berry this year, at least early. Boom is a given, Saine is question mark, and Martin was a fullback. There's an opportunity, but I expect him to be a role player that gains experience. Not exactly hurting the next year (or two) in RB recruiting either.

If Berry runs like he did in all the high school videos I watched then we aren't going to be able to keep him off the field. The guy was a 5* RB from Miami who seems to have a seriously dangerous combination of speed and power. Guys like that don't sit on the bench too long.

I think Small and Thomas have the return game pretty much locked up with potentially Saine returning some kicks as well. And I'm agreeing with Pimpinnati, we need to get Berry on the field and show some of that speed and elusiveness that we recruited him for. U don't sit a kid like that on the bench, I can see him cutting into some of Saine's carries if he can't stay healthy or if he still lacks the vision to handle the rock and run off tackles. We need to get as many of our young players in game situations as possible

He is still a true freshman and still needs to be able to pick up the blitz when he comes in. Otherwise, we are just lining up and saying we're running the ball. It could/should happen, however it's much easier to run when there is the threat to throw the ball as well.

According to an 8/3/09 discharge certificate journal entry on the clerk's website, his case is now in a deferred prosecution status. The charges will be dismissed if JB successfuly completes his diversion program.

Berry sent to diversion program

Freshman running back Jaamal Berry will have his drug-possession charges dropped, provided he completes a six-month diversion program.

This was decided Friday at a hearing in Miami, his hometown. Berry was arrested there June 11 and charged with felony possession of marijuana. The charge later was reduced to a misdemeanor, which allowed him to suit up for the Buckeyes (students charged with a felony cannot play sports while the charge is pending).

Now, he won't have a blot on his legal record at all, provided he completes the program. I'm awaiting details of how he can complete the program while living out of state.
