RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

I, and everyone I knew, managed to get through college with 0 arrests for assault. Please tell me why I cant expect the same of the student athletes? Berry should no longer a member of the team at this point, no way no how.

He hasn't been arrested for assault.

Where there's smoke....and there's been a whole lot of smoke around Berry.

I'll wait until this is more settled out, but if what he is accused of doing is true, there will be no excuse not to dismiss him from the team. The actions of some of those on the team is more disappointing than the play has been this year, and that's the disheartening part to me.

When a lot of these details come out a lot of you will feel like jackass'. Not a shot at anyone, I'm just saying we should reserve judgment. Jaamal's issues are of the 'medical' verity.

I agree the coaches know what happened and if they are letting him play it must not be as serious as it sounds

Berry in uniform

OSU running back/kickoff returner Jaamal Berry was in uniform last night. He did not play in the first half.

Berry, a sophomore, was named in a lawsuit filed in Franklin County Common Pleas court on Thursday alleging he committed assault and ethnic intimidation against a 21-year-old man around 2 a.m. on Oct. 21 near the North Market.

Berry has not been charged with a crime, but a lawyer for the man filed a civil lawsuit on Thursday seeking $25,000 compensatory and $25,000 punitive damages. No trial date has been set.

50k for a punch in the face. Shakes head lawyers...

Not condoning what he did but really 50k?
An amount you put in a complaint has no bearing on what the award will be. He could have put a bazillion gajillion dollars. Awards are compensation for actual damages. If your damages were one grand then that is all you get, no matter what you put in the complaint.

True but if I were a judge I be more inclined to throw out your complaint and laugh in your face if you asked for a bazillion gajillion dollars and say come back when you give me a reasonable number.

No.

As far as I understand, it is completely "ceremonial." As Gator said, the amount put in the complaint has absolutely no bearing on the award, if there even is one.

Personally, there are 2 things at play here.

1. I truly hope the staff is doing everything they can to keep troublemakers away from the program. It is a privilege to play for The Ohio State University, and there are players who will keep clean. No reason to keep ones who won't.

2. As of now, there isn't any real proof that Jamaal is a troublemaker. I know, there seems to be trouble attached to him. However, it is one thing to cause trouble, and another to be accused of trouble.

The moment there is proof Jamaal is a troublemaker, bounce him. Otherwise, if you kicked a player off every time he was accused of something you would rarely have enough players to field a team. IMO, of course.

Charged...

http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2011/11/02/ohio-state-jaamal-berry-charges.html

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State tailback Jaamal Berry was charged on Wednesday with assault and disorderly conduct charges for his role in an alleged incident that occurred last month off campus.

A 21-year-old told 10TV News that Berry punched him early on Oct. 21 near a Vine Street parking garage near the North Market.

The alleged victim, who requested anonymity, said he was struck by a car and was walking his friend to get into his car parked in the nearby garage when they were approached by Berry. He was then "struck in the face with a closed fist," according to a Columbus police report.

The alleged victim claimed that the attack was unprovoked and minutes later Berry, who was with another man, bragged about the incident to a witness.

On Thursday, a civil lawsuit was filed against Berry, accusing him of assault, battery and ethnic intimidation.

Berry is a starting kick returner and a backup running back for the Buckeyes. He did not play in Saturday's game against Wisconsin.

The alleged incident was the second in four weeks that Berry was accused of assault.

In September, Ohio State University police were called after a man and witnesses said Berry grabbed him as he was walking near the South Oval.

The alleged victim had minor scrapes but did not want to press charges.
