RB Ezekiel Elliott (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Pro Bowl, All Pro, Dallas Cowboys)

This is what happens when you recruit players who will choke you over a game of checkers. They hate losing and will take it emotionally. Whether Zeke handled it the right way or not, I won't pass judgment. I'm just glad he seemed to care because the offense that was on the field did not.
he certainly seemed to care more than his coaches...i'll take that.

I just think it's due to how bad we've struggled for large stretches of time in basically all of our games. We do great for a drive and then it falls apart for 15 minutes (like 50 yards of offense in a quarter falling apart).

What zeke's most damning comment was was when he said something to the affect of "or whoever is calling the plays"... to me that shows he's tired of not knowing who the offensive coordinator is. Tired of not knowing who's responsible. Tired of not knowing who should answer for this.

I can't fault him, but this is not a knee jerk reaction to one game. You don't start tearing into coaches just because they lay one bad egg. Something has been going on behind the scenes that he's not happy about.

It hasn't been just one, sure we may have been winning the others but many of them have been pretty pathetic showings by the offense.

I don't give a rat's ass what Zeke said after the game and who is either offended by it or impressed with it. Truth be told, this kid has given one hell of alot more to this University than any of us could have ever expected. Without him, we lose 35-6 last year to Alabama and never play Oregon for the title. MSU is the biggest thorn in my ass that exists. They did it to my favorite team of all-time (1974) and maybe the best team we ever had here (1998). Add to that 2013 and today and THERE YOU GO! Time to regroup and go kick the fuck out of scUM. And knowing what I know about Zeke, I'd expect about 175 rushing and a couple TD's.

Thank you young man, for all that you've done for us Buckeye fans. Now go kick the shit out of tsun and we'll see how the chips fall.

Peace

I'll venture to guess that he expected to be more of a featured player this year after what he did in the championship run last year. That was his coming out party and he was at the top of the Heisman watch list. He's shown himself to be the best, most consistent and reliable contributor on offense. I believe that most coaches would design their offense around a player like that and help him win the Heisman.

But they seemed to use him sparingly all season. It had to be tough watching Fournette at LSU getting all those stats and garnering all that attention while the OSU coaches kept trying to use Braxton in the wildcat to generate yards in the running game but, other than one dazzling run in the first game of the year, really didn't produce much and just made it harder for Cardale to get into any kind of rhythm.

Honestly, it probably would have been better for Zeke if Braxton hadn't been able to play this year. Urban kept talking about how he owes Braxton. After helping lead the team to a national championship with a backup QB last year, I think Zeke understandably feels like he was owed something too but was treated as an also ran.

He should not have spoken out publicly about it. That shows immaturity. I wonder how Urban is going to respond to that.

Idk if I agree with all that you said. Zeke possibly could be a little jealous of watching Fournette get all those yards, but Zeke i bet has less abuse to his body than Fournette, and Zeke (and almost anyone who watches CFB) knows that Forunette is the only offensive weapon that LSU has. OSU came into the year with a lot of weapons and the "guy calling the plays" got cute all year and tried doing too much, and the O line not blocking like last years version didn't help. I never thought Zeke would rack up Forunette or Henry numbers, because he didn't have to, I at least figured the staff would run more than just JT over and over... And over. I figured Samuel, Weber, Dunn, Miller would all get more chances to carry the ball. I also thought the unimaginative Braxton in wildcat would be shelved a few games into the season, when they saw that Hawaii and IU weren't falling for it!
I don't think for a second that Braxton shouldn't have played this year. I think better plays should've been drawn up to utilize him. Its sad when some mediocre to bad Big 10 teams racked up far more yards on this same MSU defense, and people are using the lame excuse of the weather. We're defending National Champs who scored more points and had more yards in a freaking blizzard against Minny last year! I'm completely fine with Zeke speaking out in frustration. I'm sure he's immature, he's a 20 year old kid, but what he said came from an honest place. If I'm Urban I sit down and talk with him and scold him for saying that in public, but Urban himself knows what he said was true. Urban should take over play calling duties for the scUM game and whatever middling bowl game were in, and then the off season starts the grind again. And get ready to see a number of coaching replacements...

Fournette was just an example. Zeke hasn't had much Heisman hype since early on in the season. With Cardale starting, the offense should have been built around Zeke running the ball. Urban talked a lot about turning Braxton into a receiver but he just couldn't resist the urge to keep playing him as a running back. That had to drive Zeke nuts.

And yet Zeke could have thrust himself right back into the Heisman discussion with a big game yesterday. Let him carry it 30 times and keep taking it to them. That's not asking too much of the OL and they seem to love blocking for Zeke. It seems to have worked well in the past, right?

They never gave him a chance. It's baffling. Urban should have had a long chat with John Cooper before the season about how he built his offense around Eddie George in '95. Not that you do it specifically to win a Heisman. You do it to take advantage of your best playmaker. Those are the guys that wind up winning Heismans. Zeke was as reliable yet underused this year as Carlos Hyde was two years ago.

Eh, nothing Zeke said upset me. He has more heart than he knows what to do with. He could have said "Fire Beck." before he walked away and I'd be over here thinking "Valid point."

He loves being a Buckeye and he gives everything he has for his team, the university, and the fans. Wish I could say that about every man earning a check for being here.

Good luck, young man. Hopefully you aren't punished for being emotional and letting the truth fly. Either way, I won't be blaming you for it. Give 'em hell next week. Can't wait to watch you tear it up on Sundays and collect what you deserve.

Who cares about Heisman hype anyway? Zeke wanted another NC! He couldn't have been frustrated watching Braxton, because he had to have known that this offense is designed around multiple weapons and not just a RB, that's what makes it so dangerous. We're not a line it up and run down your throat traditional team like Bama, LSU, Wisky, etc. We use our HBs in misdirection, wildcat, bubble screens, our QB on option zone reads, WR shovel passes, WR fake passes, and known of that was used yesterday. And in between all of that, Zeke would gash defenses. But because of the threat of the other weapons.
Urban didn't need to talk to any former coach. He needed to run the creative, spread the field offense that has made him famous. And/or find someone that can. Because the grumblings are starting that Meyer lost an OC at another school the year after winning an NC, and the offense halts...

If you're talking about 2009, the Gators were 13-1 and 10th nationally in scoring at 36.5 PPG. They threw for 236 YPG and ran for 221 YPG. Tebow completed 68% of his passes for 9.2 YPA and a 21-5 TD to INT ratio against the #8 SOS in the country. If you're talking about 2007, the Gators were 3d nationally in scoring at 42.5 PPG. They threw for 257 YPG and rushed for 200 YPG. Tebow completed 67% of his passes for 9.4 YPA and a 32-6 TD-INT ratio against the #4 SOS in the country (the Gator D was lousy that year and they lost 4 games because of it). The Gators rebounded to win the NC in 2008 as the defense improved dramatically and gave up only 12.9 PPG (#4 nationally) while the offense scored 43.6 PPG (4th nationally) against the #5 SOS.

So, what we have is evidence that: (1) Urban can lose good assistants and still run a successful offense; (2) Urban can come back from a rough and disappointing post-NC year, win another NC, and then win a "disappointing" 13 games the next year.

I don't know if OSU will come out with a vicious edge next week, if they will mail it in, or if they will fight hard but fail in the booth and on the field in executing the offense. Regardless, I fully expect the Buckeyes to lose at least three games next year, and maybe as many as five, in a 2004-like season of rebuilding on both sides of the ball as the nation rejoices in the "end" of Urban and posts heart attack memes everywhere (with a Beck canning and good replacement hire, maybe the O rebounds and they do better than I think even with what will almost certainly be a worse defense). But 2016 will end with an "upset" over scUM and a win in a bowl that nobody pays much attention to before a hungry, disrespected, Buckeye TEAM begins the next great run in 2017.
