RB Erik Haw (official thread)

My remark had nothing to do with off-the-field activities or effort in practice. I don't think you are in a position to characterize my comment one way or the other. Try being a little more polite, eh? :frown2:

OK so what did the obsequious reference point to then? - You didn't answer that (and as far as I can tell all BobCat was doing was asking IF it had to do with off-the-field activities).

Here's the deal: I don't think that it's very polite to imply that a coach of Tressel's stature plays team politics with the depth chart. It's my view that playing time for players in good standing (meaning not suspended, academics in order and following team rules) is based on that player's ability to help the team.

As far as having personality conflicts with coaches, JT let MoC continue to start even after Mo's sideline meltdown with Spencer in the Northwestern game during 2002. Astute fans rightly recognized that #13 had issues then and there. Perhaps the team would have been better off if Tressel had demanded more "obsequiousness" from Clarett.

Sandjk: He assumed I was talking about practice effort and chose to say it was a dumb statement.

Bobcat: I didn't imply, I said I wondered. I am familiar with coaches who allow not the slightest disagreement from players or you are in their doghouse - that's what I meant. I thought Dick Tressel's remarks about how Haw had to work the scout team to "steal" some reps was condescending. If everyone is even starting practice, I don't see why Haw has to work scout more than anyone else. But that is just my opinion - and as far as questioning if JT or DT might have human failings, I'm sorry but I disagree that an OSU coach should be treated as a god. I repeat that my view is a reasonable one and you were out of line to characterize a remark you don't understand or disagree with as "dumb". If you like, we can just agree to disagree, no apology expected.

here's the deal people. Haw was arrested for smoking marijuanna in a public place. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing anyone has ever done with the exception of some of #13 antics. He was never "officially" punished for this incident. Basically this is his punishment. He is #4 possibly #5 behind Shaun Lane and he has to work his way back into the mix. He is not doing it. Haw has no one to blam but himself. To say that Tressell has a personality conflict with the players is rediculous. If you are a buckeye football player, it is your job to be on the same page as the coaches. It is not the coaches job to adjust to you.

go bucks. beat the asstecs!

I don't have any stake in the "obsequious" theory. It could be that JT is just ultra cautious. NTL, he has kept good players sitting the pine before, e.g. Krenzel for Bellisari, Ginn in 2004. I would think Ginn could have learned a couple plays by the first game in 2004. :)

Uh, Mr Obsequious, Ginn played in the first game of 2004. He had two catches for -1 yard and also two incompletions. Tressel wasn't keeping him on the bench, but rather breaking him in at a new position as a true freshman.

So, "Mr. Moderator", does that mean you don't think Ginn coulda, shoulda gotten more PT the first half of 2004? Should Bellisari have been the QB instead of Krenzel? Should Pittman be the only RB getting carries against Texas? I think we will need another RB before the season is over and I would like to see somebody get carries now.

Bellisari was the team captain, as voted by the TEAM.
Ginn spent the whole Fall camp practicing at CB, so NO, he didn't couldda shoulda got more touches.
and maybe it wasn't in the gameplan for Pittman to get all the touches against Texas, but the other RBs all managed to get themselves suspended.

are you retarded? Erik got busted smoking pot OUTSIDE, IN PUBLIC. there was no 'official' punishment. his punishment was to go to the end of the line in regards to the depth chart. since he went to the end of the line, he has been dogging it in practice. that's why he's on the scout team. if he busts his ass on the scout team, he will get into the rotatation, but not before that... Erik will not be handed anything. he will have to EARN it...

BTW, Troy Smith was on the scout team when he was serving his suspension...

- Ginn got a lot of PT if you go back and look at the games, he just didn't do shit as a reciever untill mid season.

-SB stayed the QB in JT's first year because he was so popular with the SR class and Tress didn't want to lose them and have a full blown revolt on his hands. Thats was a Coop senior class and they didn't dig much of what JT was saying in the beginning. Go ask some of them if you don't believe me.

-I'll defer to JT's judgement on personnell issues over yours thanks.

And btw, if I can get out of my wifes dog house and stay married for as long as I have....Haw can get out of JT's in no time at all.

Yes Bellisari should've been the starter instead of Krenzel. Like LV said, Bellisari was a captain. Krenzel wasn't even the clear cut back up that year. It was basically a coin toss between him and McMullen to start the Illinois game. Also, Bellisari had strung together three very good games before he was suspended for DUI. Tressel doesn't keep his most talented players on the bench if they're ready to step up and play.

Agreed. He had limited touches, but looked good. It was nice to finally see a RB get a few catches. With how much speed we have at that position, it's one of the (many) underutilized weapons we have. I'd probably faint if they ran a RB screen...

Ohio State just doesnt seem to run the screen, other teams make a living off of it, but I cant even remember Ohio State really being a screen team for a long time, like scUM and Minnesota.

This is what I don't understand, the screen is a hell of a play if ran right.

I liked what I saw out of Haw yesterday and hope that he can help this team. I would like to see him getting the carries on the goalline b/c he can bounce it outside.

He doesnt really look like it if you ask me, but he has great size at 6'1" 212 lbs, making him bigger and faster than Pittman, Ive been looking forward to him playing all off-season, hopefully we start seeing more of him.
