RB Erik Haw (official thread)

I'm almost certain Wells will get a few touches this week, but the fact is the RB's we got are scat-back types - which is great in the open field, but as we so painfully saw on Saturday, won't do much in the redzone. Pittman is a beast, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I've seen him run up the middle on short yardage situations without getting smoked. I miss Brandon Joe.

Or kidnap Henry Melton? I tell you what...an all Ohio State - Texas team would be unstoppable.

Haw better get his shit together soon. We have a blue chip runningback comming in next year. Thus, loading our RB Corps to having 2 players with collegiate game experience over him and Chris Wells fighting for a sport on the depth chart as well.

I have a slight bias, as the high school that Mo Wells attended is about a mile and a half from my house. So I was well aware of his HS career before OSU entered the picture.

But consider this. I'm paraphrasing here, and maybe someone else can quote directly, but Bill Conley once said that he felt Maurice Wells was the best looking RB prospect we had recruited in a decade. That's saying something. I can tell you he's something of a legend down here. Consider for a moment the names that blanket would cover.

Doesn't mean he's a lock to be a star on our level of play. Does mean he will constantly be trying to take that starting role. Good news for us, because a strong push from deeper in the depth chart makes everyone better.

He's a frosh seeing the field already, with enough time he will impact this team on some level. Pittman is running quite well. Haw has plenty of potential, and whether or not he's in the doghouse, he can redeem himself if he does and says the right things (see: Troy Smith).

RB was one of my concerns coming into this season, despite the level of potential talent back there. Right now, I'm feeling pretty good about it.

people talk about the average performance wells had in the miami game. what you have to remember is that we had the SECOND string O-line in and they really were not getting many blocks down. you could see it on tv. i think all wells needs is a hole to see what he can do. hopefully we will see wells in with the first string to see what he can do.

Mo's day against Miami is a great "problem" to have. I don't think anyone's going to confuse him for Clarett (and I'm talking about on the field football impact) but in time, I think Mo Wells is gonna be outstanding. I was thrilled when he signed the LOI, and I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to watch him develop.

Wells should make some good strides forward in this game. For one, I think he'll get some reps with the first team OL. Second, he's got a few game carries under his belt, plus some more practices to help slow the game down for him. You could see his vision and speed on his very first carry, which I still think was a TD.

Like a lot of fans, I'm curious about Haw, but I think we're getting some indications...the staff doesn't really mention him much, he's been behind Pittman from day one, the staff felt that they needed to move Schnittker to TB, and a Freshman who'd been on campus a month has already gotten game reps. It sounds more and more like he's wound up four-deep for more than the doob incident.

Not to mention Wells and Clarett are two different style of backs. Clarett came in 6'1, 230lbs. as a brusing back. Whereas, we will utilize Mo Wells (5'9, 185lbs) as our primary speed back.

Looks like two good runs and then set back by a few mediocre ones. Not bad though.

Almost all those carries were in mop-up, where Miami knew we were going to run the ball to kill the clock. His first run, he cut back against the grain from the 7 and was a half yard short of scoring. I want to see what he can do when to opposition doesn't have 8 in the box...

I'm still waiting to see something out of Haw. I know he's been under susp. but in the next few games I would like to see him get a few touches or at least in on special teams. But for themost part he's going have to do something amazing to get a starting job at tOSU

Haw is under some fairly stiff competition considering who we have at back this year and who we are getting next year. He is going to have to amaze our coaches if he is going to go anywhere. Not saying out backs are some of the best in the nation but by next year we should have a damn fine group. Unfortunately, I don't see Haw stepping up, at least as of yet
