RB Erik Haw (official thread)

He doesnt really look like it if you ask me, but he has great size at 6'1" 212 lbs, making him bigger and faster than Pittman, Ive been looking forward to him playing all off-season, hopefully we start seeing more of him.

Yeah I think we have 3 rb's with a whole hell of a lot of potential. Wells and Pitt are starting to recognize the cutbacks and are just getting them a half a second late and getting tripped up. They need to start breaking tackles and making some good moves.

Pittman has thrown quite a few freaking awesome stiff-arms so far this season though.

Yeah, but that is his only break away move, his vision needs to get a little better and I would like to see a spin move or something.

I think he is having a good year, but a little more experience and he could be a game changer from the tailback spot. I would also like to see him in space more.

With Chris Wells coming in, our running backs have to understand that if they want to be a legitamite player on this football team then they have to produce now, otherwise they'll rarely see the field next year.

Thats what we said to Ross and Hall about these guys.

Its not a talent issue folks, its a never ending mix of poor planning and poor execution. The fault lies with the coaches.

hey anybody that really knows independence football, in 2003 did Erik Haw actually have 250 yards and 4 tds on only 4 carries against Africentric during the 2003 hs football season, i do know for a fact that it was a 74-0 win by Independence, i heard someone say this and don't know if i should believe it or not

I like Pittman, and I think he shows a lot of promise, and will show more if our O line ever gets it together. However, it seems like there are at least some on this site who don't think he can be the go-to guy. That being said, I haven't heard Haw's name come up on this site in a long time. I don't know what to think one way or the other, but it seems like he should at least get a shot. It seems like he's landed himself in Tressel's doghouse and will never get out. Any thoughts?

I don't think Haw's problem is his off field behavior. JT would not hold a grudge.. Haw has been punished its over. Haw's lack of PT is symtomatic of the whole offenses problem. Lack of execution in practice. If Haw was wowing the staff in practice he would get PT. I get the feeling the whole O is not in sync in practice or games. I am frustrated but probably mot as much as JT whomhas to see it every day. I think every O player needs to look in the mirror and take ownership for the poor O Performance. I know the players prefer TS because he was chosen first in the last two spring practices, so he needs to show leadership..take command of the huddle..etc.

This is interesting, so I hope people will read it even though it's in a dated thread. I don't know how many of you were at the Iowa game this year, and the reason I say so is b/c I'm sure this wasn't on the telecast. Anyway, the players come running out onto the field before the game and head to our sideline like they always do. Well, Haw stops in at the 50 yard line in the center of the "O" and takes a knee, and puts his head down like he's saying a prayer or something. At any rate, after he gets up and runs over to the sideline, Tressel meets him and said a few things to him. Now, of course I'm not sure what was said, but I'd imagine that Tressel didn't like the fact that Haw was drawing attention to himself in the dead center of the field. I mention this only to see what others thought of it and to wonder if this further has assisted in keeping Haw in the doghouse.

I don't think Tressel is going to bench someone for getting pumped up for the game. Holmes usually draws attention to himself beforehand by getting pumped up, but its not out of arrogance, it's about getting his adrenaline pumping. He usually goes out and does a very visible, dramatic high-five to someone (like w/ rhall in the tejas game)

Haw has been maligned for not giving enough in practice. He also just may not be good enough. Smith is one of our two RBs (no I'm not saying he can't pass), and that fact gets lost on people. After those two split carries, there aren't that many to go around.

Maybe you're right. It does seem a bit ridiculous to bench someone for something like that. However, if Haw's been in Tressel's doghouse before, I'm sure that didn't help. Additionally, I'm not sure I entirely agree with analogizing Haw's action to Holmes's--I go to all the home games, so I've seen what Holmes does, and his stuff is more team-oriented (high fiving, chest bumping teammates, etc.), whereas Haw's could be seen as just trying to draw attention to himself. I'm not saying I am right and you're wrong here, I'm just offering a different viewpoint and a reason why Haw might have done something the coaches didn't like.
