Ohio State football: Team MVP Herron a source of leadership

Even when he was in the shadows, a player doing his penance with little outward reward, Daniel Herron created an impression with his teammates that would result in a surprising award.
The player known as ?Boom? was silent for Ohio State?s first six games. He was one of four (excluding the departed Terrelle Pryor) who served a five-game suspension for his part in the tattoo-and-memorabilia scandal.
Herron then had another one-game suspension tacked on for being overpaid for part-time work he did for now-disassociated booster Bobby DiGeronimo.
But when Herron returned, he did so with a bang befitting his nickname. Playing in Ohio State?s final six games, Herron did enough on and off the field to be voted by his teammates as the team?s Most Valuable Player.
The honor seemed to take Herron by surprise.
?The players voted for it,? Herron said earlier this week as Ohio State prepared for Florida in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2. ?I guess they felt I had great leadership and (played well) when I came back. I was very thankful for it, that my teammates looked at me as a great player.?
