RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

Updates on Herron, Larimore

In the Big Ten coaches conference call, Jim Tressel sounded optimistic about running back Daniel Herron's chance to be ready for Saturday's game against Wisconsin, but doesn't expect defensive tackle Dexter Larimore to be able to play.

First, Tressel on Herron: "His health is coming along. He was probably 85 percent going into the (Indiana) game. With the adrenaline going, he probably could have helped us. But we want him to be 100 percent. He worked out Sunday, though our workout on Sunday is only 45 minutes. Monday is our day off. I hope he?s near 100 percent because we?re going to need him."

Injury report

Ohio State running back Daniel Herron left in the second quarter because of an apparent injury to his left ankle and did not return.

BuckeyeXtra - OSU notebook: Return extra sweet for Small

This team needs a healthy Boom Herron. A big part of their struggles may have been the absence of Herron, who carried the ball only twice Saturday before leaving the game after reinjuring his ankle. It’s not that Herron is that much better than Saine. In fact, I would argue that Saine is still the best back on the team, but neither is going to be Beanie Wells and tote the rock 25-30 times in a game. Together they make a pretty solid tandem because of the way they complement each other, but they aren’t nearly as effective alone. Say what you want about freshman Jordan Hall, and he appears to have excellent upside, but he’s not Herron.

ankle?

looked to me like his sphincter got stretched out...Did anyone else notice it looked like the defender pulled his head out of Boom's arse on the play he was hurt? If you missed it you must watch it again. Looked like Boom was giving birth.

Get well soon buddy miss ya.

Jim Tressel's Ohio State news conferece: Dan Herron out, defenses forcing Buckeyes' offense to adjust
By Doug Lesmerises
October 13, 2009

Notes from Jim Tressel's news conference today:

* Running back Dan Herron, who left the Wisconsin game with what looked like a reaggravated left ankle injury, will miss Saturday's game against Purdue and could be out longer. Brandon Saine will start, backed up by freshman Jordan Hall, while freshman Jaamal Berry, who hasn't played yet, continues to be a question mark. Redshirt freshman Jermil Martin would prepare as the possible third tailback.

The Buckeyes won?t have Boom Herron back in full capacity this week as he continues to get over an ankle injury suffered in week four against Illinois, but Tressel said they are hoping he can take a few snaps this week to get himself mentally back in the flow before their game against the Nittany Lions.

?We would love to have him turn the corner, even if it?s just to play a little to get over that hump that I?m back in game-form. That would be a big bonus for us, both for Saturday and beyond.?

With that being said, Herron will still be the No. 4 option at tailback Saturday against the Aggies.

?Jordan Hall will play plenty and Jermil Martin has shown he can add to the cause,? Tressel said of the team?s two freshmen backs.

Herron hoping for breakout season in OSU backfield

In high school, Daniel Herron acquired the nickname ?Boom? because when he came up to the line carrying the ball, he would blow it up.

Ohio State fans can only hope they will be yelling that nickname after each of Herron?s carries this upcoming season.

?Boom? is not the first Herron to experience success on the football field, however. David, his older brother, was a linebacker for Michigan State before signing with the Minnesota Vikings and most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs.

For Herron, having a sibling that has already experienced football at the collegiate level has been helpful throughout his own career with the Buckeyes.

?It has helped with him being older and going through college before me,? he said. ?He has definitely told me a lot. What to do. What not to do. All the right decisions to make.?

Surprised no one has commented on the "Boom," Herron put on someone during that goal-line drill they showed on the BTN preview special. Can't remember who he put it to, but he put the LB to the ground. I jumped out of my seat and started marching around the room humming The Buckeye Battle Cry with my air trumpet like I was part of TBDBITL.........ok maybe I didn't do all that but it did make me say "DAMN I CANT WAIT FOR KICKOFF." :oh:
