RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

CW could easily have a better freshman season than MoC. The Fat One's season was front-loaded with the games against WSU and TT. While he definitely showed flashes after that, he was banged up most of the rest of the way. Of course, he showed up big in the NC, but even then Cryami held him well under 100 for the game.

If CW stays healthy and puts together a solid season, he'll eclipse MoC.

To be fair, MoC had a huge game against the scUMmers (20 for 119 and a TD) as well. He was a big reason we won that game.

With the revisions of scout.com rankings, osu now has the #1 overall prospect in football and basketball for the '06 class.

i'm willing to bet that this has never happened before with the NBA not having an age restriction until this year.

Though I think CW has the potential to eclipse Mo's frosh season, with Pittman guaranteed a load of carries, I don't see it happening in the stat column. Will he be just as good as MoC was, very possibly...but to say he'll put up MoC's frosh stats, the only was this could happen is if Pittman went down with an injury (heaven forbid).

I think you're right about that and it's a good problem to have. I should've written that but for Pittman, a better than MoC freshman season was possible.

Also, MoC did put up a game against scUM. I didn't mean to suggest that he didn't, but rather to say that the right back could put up comparable numbers to MoC overall. Even so, I believe that yards are worth more against scUM. I'll take Pittman's 84 or so this year with that td at the end any time.

Safety Myron Rolle, from The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., was Scout.com's top-ranked prospect in its preseason Hot 100, and now is ranked No. 5.
There is much sentiment among Scout analysts that Wells, who has committed to play for Ohio State, could have the same impact as Maurice Clarett did as a true freshman a few seasons ago for the Buckeyes. Wells, 6 foot 1, 225 pounds, finished his senior season with 2,134 yards and 27 touchdowns on 223 carries. He also did not have a strong supporting cast.
Wells had several 200-yard games this year and capped the season by going for 355 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries against rival Buchtel of Akron.
"Wells deserves to be the No. 1 player in the country because he's the most college-ready running back in the country and he also has tremendous upside," said Chris Pool, Scout.com's Midwest recruiting editor. "The 6-1, 225-pounder is a powerful tailback that runs north-south with explosion. Wells has tremendous speed, he can make defenders miss and he'll be a difference maker in Columbus as a true freshman."
Offensive lineman Andre Smith of Birmingham, Ala; wide receiver Percy Harvin of Virginia Beach, Va.; running back/safety Stafon Johnson of Los Angeles, and others were considered for Scout.com's No. 1 spot. Wells got the nod in a close call over Smith.
"Wells is a big back with good speed," said Jamie Newberg, national recruiting editor at Scout.com. "He has the ability pound it between the tackles and run with authority. Wells has excellent balance, vision and can surprise you with his elusiveness and lateral movement. He just has that rare combination of size, speed, quickness and power that is so hard to find."
Scout.com Top 10

  1. Chris Wells, RB, Akron, Ohio
  2. Andre Smith, OL, Birmingham, Ala.
  3. Percy Harvin, WR, Chatham, Va.
  4. Stafon Johnson, RB/S, Los Angeles
  5. Myron Rolle, S, Princeton, N.J.
  6. Vidal Hazelton, WR, Chatham, Va.
  7. Sam Young, OL, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
  8. Mitch Mustain, QB, Springdale, Ark.
  9. Matthew Stafford, QB, Dallas
  10. Sergio Kindle, LB, Dallas

If memory serves me correct, Clarret was ranked as the number one back in the country at some time during the rankings.

That makes 3 rb's that Tress has been able to bring in that have topped some rankings at one point or other during their high school career.

Clarrett, Wells, Wells.

That's really amazing to think about - especially considering there are thousands of HS senior running backs every year...

I agree. I think that is amazing that we have two number one recruits. I just hope C. Wells has a good head on his shoulders and doesn't let this get to his head too much. Can't wait to see him in the All-American bowl. What is the date for that by the way?

From all of his interviews, and from observing him during the North/South game (he was on the sidelines hanging out with the stars and buckeye players)... he seems like a pretty humble guy.

For those unable to travel to San Antonio, the game will be televised live on NBC beginning at noon, central standard time, Jan. 7.
