RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I'll be very interested to see how Beanie felt after the game. He went to the sidelines several times right after runs and looked a little slow. Saw the trainers take off his shoe once over there too. I hope the old Beanie foot responds well to a little football today. :wink2:

Yeah, from what I saw after the game, it appeared he was just having a little trouble with the new shoes. I don't think he likes them.

It was great to see Beanie back on the field. He still looked pretty explosive and tough, give him some time to adjust to the shoes and he should be even better. That hurdle was a thing of beauty, a man that big, moving that fast having the agility to leap over a guy, wow, just wow.

I was a student when Byars was robbed because of Fluties hail mary, it sure would not upset me if Beanie puts up some astounding stats and makes it hard to ignore him. I'd at least like to see him invited to NYC.

Bob Hunter commentary: Only thing Wells missing is Superman's red cape

Sunday, September 28, 2008 3:38 AM
By Bob Hunter

The great toe mystery is history, the answer finally revealed yesterday in a saga that could have been created by DC Comics.
Chris "Beanie" Wells, owner of the injured toe/foot that caused so much angst among Ohio State fans and so much guesswork among reporters, returned to the lineup after three weeks off and played as if the injury were imaginary, played as if he had secretly taken time off to hike the Appalachian Trail.
So after three weeks in hiding, could Wells finally reveal exactly was wrong?
"It's difficult, it's difficult," he said. He broke into a cryptic smile and shifted uneasily, as if reporters were closing in and he was going to have to stiff-arm his way out of the room.
"It was like a busted tendon thing in the bottom of the foot," he said.
So it's not the toe?
"It's the toe also," he said. "It's all connected into one."
And it's not completely healed, it's still "achy," he's "maybe 75 percent" and, uh, wait a minute. Wasn't this the guy who gained 106 yards on 14 carries, an average of 7.6 yards, and leaped over a low-flying Minnesota defender in a single bound and kept going like a speeding train?

BUCKEYES NOTEBOOK
Wells got comfortable as game progressed
By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS - His season started with his team ranked near the very top of college football, and his personal status established as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy as the best player in the game. A month ago, Chris "Beanie" Wells was the Big Ten's pre-season offensive player of the year, and Ohio State's most dreaded offensive weapon.

But a quirky injury in the second half of a blow-out win over Youngstown State put Wells on crutches, in a protective boot, and had him attending the next three Ohio State games in red sweat pants and unable to provide anything more than vocal support for his teammates.

In yesterday's Big Ten opener against Minnesota, Beanie was back in business, rushing for 106 yards on just 14 carries as the Buckeyes won 34-21. Wells busted loose for 28 yards on his second carry of the game, showing the explosiveness that allowed him to gain more than 1,600 yards last season.

"At first I was nervous and anxious," said Wells. "But once I got my first big gain, I felt comfortable again. I just want to keep going. I can carry the ball as many times as possible."

I'd put the odds of Beanie winning this year's Heisman trophy right around the same odds as Oregon State beating USC, Ole Miss beating Florida, and Michigan beating Wisconsin all in the same weekend.

Very well put - I would say the odds for Beanie in the Heisman race are still small unless he can have some games where he totally blows up for like 200+ and a couple TDs. Additionally the other hopefuls that haven't had a bad week need to (ie - Chase Daniel).

Regardless - it is AWESOME to see Beanie back running the ball and in the same backfield as Pryor. A couple of his longer runs were great and the hurdle was amazing. Combat boots for cleats only makes him somewhat mortal.
